what are the admitted student quartiles for LSN based on last year (not the official HLS entering class data)? that should hopefully decrease selection bias/self reported dataThe thinker wrote:Ya accounting for all the usual trappings of self reported data and bias .nickhalden wrote:Plus selection bias.The thinker wrote:By my calculation , Harvard is currently at the following quartiles for admitted class ( based on LSN data):

Haha I doubt that that's their approach but it's an interesting idea RE yieldEhrler wrote:Things have quieted down here and on LSN much like they did yesterday.
Suggestion and total spit-ball theory: JS primes the pump by calling 15-20% (3/11 on LSN came before a significant break (muji posted here 2-3 hours before LSN)) of a day's admits early in the morning before taking 3-4 hours off. This way some buzz gets generated and a much higher proportion of the remaining 80-85% of the day's applicants answer their phones and get that fuzzy feeling that totally boosts yield (I have no idea why they do this whole calling thing).
I've joined the rash of manic rationalizers... Call me before I make myself too dumb to be worth admitting, JS.

I second this. Perhaps JS will send out emails accepting international students at the end of the wave? I have good stats but I am worried that Harvard might have limited space for int students and they have all been filled alreadyqwertyTLS wrote:congrats! has anyone received an email today?

So can we agree that they are still accepting late Jan/early Feb interview dates? Any mid-to-late Feb dates accepted yet?

JS2 this morning with a Feb. 5th JS1 if that helps, but you may mean after this morning's JS2s. In that case, I have no idea.meyer5541 wrote:So can we agree that they are still accepting late Jan/early Feb interview dates? Any mid-to-late Feb dates accepted yet?

was doing it off my phone before so took awhile but last year:qwertyTLS wrote:what are the admitted student quartiles for LSN based on last year (not the official HLS entering class data)? that should hopefully decrease selection bias/self reported dataThe thinker wrote:Ya accounting for all the usual trappings of self reported data and bias .nickhalden wrote:Plus selection bias.The thinker wrote:By my calculation , Harvard is currently at the following quartiles for admitted class ( based on LSN data):

not including waitlists
25th = 172 3.8
50th = 174 3.88
75th = 176 3.955
including waitlist/admit:
25th = 172 3.77
50th = 174 3.87
75th = 176 3.95
Including all waitlist but waitlist/reject:
25th = 171 3.75
50th = 173 3.86
75th = 176 3.94
for comparison official data:
GPA 75th / 50th / 25th percentiles: 3.95 / 3.87 / 3.75
LSAT 75th / 50th / 25th percentiles: 175 / 173 / 170

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Yeah. This is what worries me. I'm one of those people who doesn't quite have their shit together yet. I'm not sure what I want to practice and I don't have the most stellar response for "why do you want to go to law school?" I've been counting on my GPA and LSAT being above 75%, but if their quartiles are already higher than last year, then they might go for people with lower stats who do know what they're doing.mujiali wrote:I definitely had an awkward moment or two as well. I got in all the same. To those scheduling/preparing for/stressing over upcoming JS1s, remember they just want to see who you are, that you aren't insane, and that you have a good idea of what you are doing (or are clear that you don't really know yet and are OK with that).aad993 wrote:Okay for purposes of interview stress alleviation. Q: So what kind of law do you want to practice?
A: Oh! I'm super interested in practicing A-B-Z law. Here's why. *Gives long explanation of A-B-Z law which doesn't actually exist*
Q: I can see why you'd be interested in A-B-C law? *knows what I meant to say, being nice and helping me out*
A: Yeah! A-B-Z law!!!!
Q:![]()
Later
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Um... keep on practicing A-B-Z law (which, may I remind you, does not actually exist). Except, doing more important... stuff? Like, in charge of stuff! That's important!![]()
I was still admitted. Make whatever wild conclusions you like from this.
Then again, I read similar advice in the lead-up to my JS1, and I still freaked out about it before, during, and after, right up to when JS called today. So you know, whatever. :p
I'm torn between trying to fake that I have my shit together and know what I want to do (which they'll most likely see through) or admitting that I'm not certain yet, and then hoping that they don't ding me because of it.
On the plus side, I've already been accepted to Duke and Michigan. I wasn't going to even apply to Michigan, but the Dean there sent me a personal, handwritten note about how she saw through LSAC that I had gone to a Seven Sisters School and that she was a Bryn Mawr grad. And then she wrote me another note about how much she loved my personal statement when I got in. I'm not too happy with her tempting me so much!

so I was so excited that more JS2's are coming today for people who had their JS1's at the same time I did. I texted my friend "more JS2's for my wave today. here's to hoping" and he was like "would you stop texting me with all that weird lingo lol. I have no idea what it means. good luck though haha"

You can tell them you don't know what you want to do. Most people change tracks in law school (and often several times more during their career), and adcoms know this. You should have a few ideas about what areas would be would be most appealing, enough to demonstrate that you aren't clueless about the law. But it isn't imperative that you paint a finely detailed picture.racic22s wrote:

This is exactly what I did... Said I honestly was not sure, but had 2 areas I was interested in, and hoped that time studying the law would help me narrow it down to a single preferred career path.HorseThief wrote:You can tell them you don't know what you want to do. Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Congrats to the new JS2s! Skimming through the thread it looks like JS was calling while ASW events were going on, and they're now wrapped up now, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was another wave later this afternoon.
For the waiters -- at the last event this morning JS said (roughly) "I know it doesn't feel like it for some, but it is still early in the cycle." She was talking about how the admissions office is still available to answer questions from admitted students etc, but I thought some here might appreciate that.
Also, if you get in, you should go to ASW. HLS throws an incredible party.

Congrats to the new JS2s....for those of us still waiting do you all think we will have more JS2s tomorrow? I feel like yesterday and today weren't huge waves. Also, were there any Mid-February JS2s today or yesterday?

Wow lots of good news since I last checked this thread! Congrats to all the new JS2s and JS1s! I'm at the airport post-ASW and it was really really good I would definitely recommend!
Also for those nervous about JS1s - during mine (details changed to not completely out myself but please don't quote!) the Fire alarm in my place went off and my interviewer was like "err are you going to deal with that?" and I basically said "nah I think they're just testing it I think hopefully" and then 5 people knocked on my door after that before my interview ended so I think you'd seriously have to mess something up to have it affect your admission decision!
Good luck everyone!

Oh thank god FINALLY JS2. October JS1 more or less double medians.
Missed the call though. Is Jessica Soban's e-mail public? Kind of want to send a thank you note.

I sort of wouldn't if I were you. I had the same impulse but I thought about it for a second, and while it's sort of a nice idea, she probably wouldn't want 1000ish emails in her inbox thanking her for admission. Nor does she probably know or remember you personally given all the decisions she has to make.mpc347 wrote:Oh thank god FINALLY JS2. October JS1 more or less double medians.

Now you are in, your interviewer will email you, and a member of the faculty reaches out as well, so there are plenty of opportunities to say how excited you are and thank relevant people.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
