Re: Emory 2010
Thanks, and congrats on your offer. At the risk of sounding entitled, I'll be bummed if I don't get any $$ from Emory. I have generous offers ($75k) from peer schools, so I was really hoping for Emory to be in the mix. Atlanta is an appealing location. I suppose I'll have to sweat this one out.sebastian0622 wrote:I was notified of acceptance today, and the letter also had scholarship info. FYI, $60k for 3.5 / 167. Better offer than Wash U. Seems as though the new acceptances are all getting scholarship info in the package. Has anyone been accepted in the past two weeks and received scholarship info separately?

If I'm getting an email for a "Admission Communications Survey," does this mean they sent my decision letter? Anyone else get this email?

I got the email too, complete 1/19 and I haven't been accepted. I don't think it means anything (and in the email it sort of hints at the fact that it doesn't mean anything).smartblonde87 wrote:If I'm getting an email for a "Admission Communications Survey," does this mean they sent my decision letter? I wouldn't read too much into it. The e-mail states that participation/non-participation in the survey will have no bearing whatsoever on the admission process.smartblonde87 wrote:If I'm getting an email for a "Admission Communications Survey," does this mean they sent my decision letter? i received a phone call to let me know that i was accepted, and when i asked about whether scholly info would be included in my packet, the admissions person was unsure because they were trying to start send the decisions together but hadn't gotten fully caught up yet to do so.ArthurEdens wrote:Thanks, and congrats on your offer. That's a fair point, and hopefully the actual case here. I've been complete since 2/3 and haven't heard anything since.smartblonde87 wrote:if they sent the email to the ppl they sent decisions then it couldn't... i'm trying to figure out if ppl who had their decision a while ago got them now.jman77 wrote:I wouldn't read too much into it. So lets see. A 166/3.6 gets a fat scholly, and a 165/3.6 gets no word as of almost six months after applying, nice.

Same here ryguy. Especially frustrating with strong admit numbers. But, they can make up for it with a good money deal along with a late acceptance.

Who hasn't gotten this survey? I might wait a few days to fill it out, just to ensure I wasn't in this latest batch

Sorry, you need to have a median LSAT in order for Emory to give you a nice scholarshipbruinsbaseball wrote:been accepted for about a month. no news about a scholarship. anyone know how theyre doing this? im expecting a decent deal 167 3.76

I got an acceptance packet this past Monday, after being complete only a week. There was no scholarship info in it at all. Why would some people get them together and others separately? Also, why would they give more money to applicants at their medians than above? Someone help me understand that.

Re: Emory 2010
People just above the medians are more likely to attend with scholarship than, say, a 173/3.75, who could probably get other offers somewhere and thus would not attend. Because those just above the medians would be more likely to attend due to not getting better offers, this raises Emory's medians. By giving bigger money to these people and less to those with higher scores, Emory makes effective use of their money in their attempt to raise their medians.musicfor18 wrote:I got an acceptance packet this past Monday, after being complete only a week. Re: Emory 2010
Well, actually, it appears from LSN (this year) that they pretty much give out the 72k deal to everyone at or above medians in both categories. They offer 54k to those who are above one median it appears (LSAT primarily). I guess it's because the gain to their rankings is meaningless above the median level. That seems fairly cynical, but it's a good way to maintain their rank. A 166/3.7 will be more swayed (possibly as their best T20 or even T30 offer) by 24k than a 168/3.7, who will probably be getting big $ from WUSTL or BU, in at Cornell and a couple other T14, and full rides at other T20-T30 schools. Thus, based on probability of attendance, it's in Emory's favor to concentrate their scholarship money near the median, as that is their "niche" in the admissions game.musicfor18 wrote:I got an acceptance packet this past Monday, after being complete only a week. For what it's worth in yesterday, applied 2/3. 168/3.04 60k scholly. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear.

Part 2 of my prediction did not come true today. I predicted $54k.... but instead received $60kArthurEdens wrote:Got my acceptance package today. Part 1 of my prediction has come true. Congrats to those who have recently gotten in. I'm looking forward to a decision after 4 months of waiting.

A pleasant surprise to say the least. I do have a question, however. I noticed that Emory lists cost of living as about $2000/month. Does this strike anyone else as higher than anticipated? Is housing near Emory really so expensive?

Re: Emory 2010
Congrats Killcam,
I still don't understand how I have been complete since middle January with a 167/3.5+ and so many others are hearing. My theory was that for a while they didn't dip below 3.6's, but that isnt holding water anymore. Living in Georgia right now and wanting to be in Atlanta after law school, Emory is a strong school for me. But UGA with instate and yearly scholarship will be tough to beat. I would like to have the option though.
