He said that if I know I want to stay and practice in Chicago my entire career, then Loyola with $ is not a bad choice. I dont though. My other choices have a bit more regional (national?) reach and would not necessarily confine me to one specific location.lewis louis wrote:moanderson: What did the mid-size law firm partner have to say? For commuting student, does anyone know how much parking costs around the law school?

Too much. Park near an L station and go from there.Hammurabi wrote:For commuting student, does anyone know how much parking costs around the law school?

Always an option I know. But does anyone have a ballpark estimate for year long parking? Trying to figure out the cost-benefit of buying a car.PlugInBaby wrote:Too much. Do not drive. Bad choice. I believe the cheaper lots around will be ~20/day. The L or metra would be 10x better.Hammurabi wrote:Always an option I know. How do you guys feel about Loyola's strong increase in rankings? +9 up to 78 I think. LUC is now the highest ranked out of the Chicago T2 schools.
DePaul dropped down to 98 and I was super close to choosing them over Loyola for the money, but I'm glad I didn't.

I think it's well deserved. And it made my choice of Loyola over Depaul that much easier.nitr0x99 wrote:How do you guys feel about Loyola's strong increase in rankings? +9 up to 78 I think. Re: Loyola Chicago 2010
I put my deposit in today. I received better money from both Kent & DePaul but I liked the vibe much better at Loyola. Now I ned to pick between Loyola and Loyola LA. Complete different schools on different coasts, really a tough decision.

Just withdrew. This one hurt, but I am also excited to be attending W&L in the fall. In the end, high COL + not enough $$ + relatively high tuition made LUC prohibitively expensive for me.
Best of luck, guys!

I also withdrew today. They gave me no scholarship at all, so it was a pretty easy choice.
I'll likely be practicing in Chicago in three years, though.

I would like to hear from WUSTL, but I am losing hope in getting off of hold. Put down the deposit at W&L today.

Finally withdrew. It was a tough decision, as loyola was my top choice only 6 months ago, before I took the lsat and life happened. 30k back in the pot for someone.

Generally, parking in that neighborhood is quite expensive, but Loyola has special deals with the garages for students. The best is something like $6 or $8 per day.Hammurabi wrote:Always an option I know. But does anyone have a ballpark estimate for year long parking? there is one or two garages right by the law school where students can park for $6. all you need to do is validate your parking ticket at the security desk when you leave the law school.

Withdrew. Close call, decided to go to Chicago-Kent.
Biggest reason: Loyola's 20K/yr cap on merit scholarships.

Has anyone been pulled off the waitlist yet? I'm currently riding it out, and it's my first choice.

Not I, but given that I'm already in at Wisconsin, I'll probably be withdrawing anyway.rockababy123 wrote:Has anyone been pulled off the waitlist yet? I'm currently riding it out, and it's my first choice.

Re: Loyola Chicago 2010
I asked career service for some information regarding government hiring statistics and they were kind enough to send along the following. Hope it helps.
Doesn't really reveal a lot about pay or type of work but good to see a decent representation of agencies. In 2009, 68% of our students were employed at graduation.
The answer to your question regarding which government agencies our students work for after they graduate is a little complicated because it depends on which graduation year.
The breakdown for 2009 is as follows:
Homeland Security = 1 graduate
Health & Human Services = 3 graduates
Internal Revenue Services = 1 graduate
U.S. Postal Service = 1 graduate
The breakdown for 2008 is as follows:
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission = 1 graduate
U.S. Department of Justice = 2 graduates
Securities and Exchange Commission = 1 graduate
U.S. Federal Trade Commission = 1 graduate
U.S. Department of Transportation = 1 graduate
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development = 1 graduate
One of our 2010 graduates was offered a position at the DOJ's Antitrust Division but turned it down because he took a position with a federal judge. I know of one other graduate from a few years ago going to work there as well.
Other federal departments where Loyola alumni work include: US Attorney's Office, the Department of Justice, Veteran's Affairs, Social Security, EPA, EEOC. At least six other alumni work at the SEC.
Each year we have approximately 6 graduates go to work for federal judges as judicial law clerks.
I hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the info. I wish we could see the class ranks of each one of those people. Thats wishful thinking though.

I am also on the waitlist. I never received a username and password to check my application status so I called LUC today. They informed me that the committee is still reviewing applications and we will not hear anything until early or mid May.rockababy123 wrote:Has anyone been pulled off the waitlist yet? Seriously? I visited the campus in March and spoke with admissions, they gave me the impression that we would know by the end of April.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
