Just received the "application held for regular decision review" email. I'm actually pretty happy with that, as I know getting accepted has been really tough this cycle. Here's my info for those of you keeping track:

Interesting. This is good to hear, as people with better numbers have gotten flat-out rejected. UT is confusing me this cycle. Do you have strong softs?

I also got the same "held from regular decision" response. I have a 162/3.6 (Latino, yet non URM, and some good softs).... seems like i should have been a "reject" this cycle.

Should I write a LOCI already?

I just called the UT admissions office to ask about receiving status checkers because it's been over 3 weeks since i sent my app in and i haven't gotten a status checker. the lady was really nice and said that ut has a "homegrown" database that's been hit hard with all the apps that came in around the 11/1 deadline.

Ah, I just hope I get something before Thanksgiving break. I am literally 1 mile down the road from the law school, so it takes no time for a letter to reach me (I would pick it up if that was an option).

Once I receive my Harvard acceptance letter, I plan to withdraw my application from Texas in order to give another candidate (hopefully one of you) an opportunity to attend. Do you have any advice on the most courteous and also most effective means of contacting them for this purpose?

Say anymore than that, and you've gone way too far. In fact, asking for advice, here, among people still anxious to get in, might rub some the wrong way.

Either way, thank you for not blowing them off and not saying anything. I'm sure some will do just that.

I would call them and let them know as well. That way if your letter doesn't get found for weeks, they already know verbally.

Very surprising, and welcome to the club. Your GPA seems to refute our "only people below a 3.6 get held over" theory.

Maybe there really is some truth to the idea that they hold over a semi-random sample? I know this is wishful thinking on my part

I think it depends. But I definitely first saw the decision on my status checker. That was in October, though. They are doing calls now.

not really. I have some average work experience, but I do have a strong upward grade trend (doubtful that this matters, though). My best guess is that my undergrad (Cal) helped some. Our students traditionally place strong at Texas (acceptance rate was 36% last cycle for I'm assuming mostly OOS students). I know though that most people on here think undergrad rep. doesn't matter much, so I really have no idea. Best of luck to you if you're still waiting to hear!

anyone gotten a rejection lately? status checker tells me my app was processed on the 12th and havent heard anything since.......wondering if they send all the rejections out at once or they trickle in like the acceptances
