Is "Under Committee Review" a UR2 shift or a ding signal?

Everyone goes from complete to UCR, then at some point over the next couple weeks the date changes and that is UCR2.LSATuration wrote:Is "Under Committee Review" a UR2 shift or a ding signal?
There is, to my knowledge, nothing on any school's status tracker short of a final decision that could be interpreted as a "ding signal." People on this site are adept at talking themselves into seeing them in the tea leaves, however.

Re: Penn Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
Thought it was UCR2 because of the text at the top that said my file was being reviewed by the committee though my status stayed Complete. Totally agree with the concept of no ding signal but I am not knowledgeable about each school, so thought I'd ask.Bojack93 wrote:Everyone goes from complete to UCR, then at some point over the next couple weeks the date changes and that is UCR2.LSATuration wrote:Is "Under Committee Review" a UR2 shift or a ding signal?

Huh, went UCR already. That's a decent turnaround. I was complete 12/4.

Re: Penn Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
Looking for serious advice - should I switch my Penn app to ED?
I'm currently a 3.3x/ 174 and went UR2 in mid Dec. I expect that I will hear back mid Jan, but I'm concerned with my chances because of the splitter unfriendliness of Penn. I have great softs and went to good undergrad but am non-URM. I would love to go to Penn, but do I need the bump of ED, or can I pass the threshold without it?

Check out the numbers from last year. Most likely, you will be waitlisted (but if you ED, you're pretty much guaranteed to get in straight-away).TheMule wrote:Looking for serious advice - should I switch my Penn app to ED?

Re: Penn Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
Same sort of question as TheMule. Penn is definitely one of my top choices and I am considering ED there because of my painful splitter status. The only two schools I would consider above Penn are Columbia and NYU because my family is in NYC and I want to practice there and I love the grime of the city. I'm a 3.3x/173 splitter. The new MyLSN calculator puts my chances at Columbia, NYU, and Penn at .22, .35, .24 respectively. But if I ED at Penn, that chance goes up to .62. The chance of getting waitlisted/rejected at all 3 are 0.39 if I just multiply the chances altogether. Of course, these aren't hard numbers, but it's kind of scary. I don't love the idea of debt, but I'm willing to take it on for my Top 3. Should I ED II Penn or just chance it?
Thanks for any advice!!

Would you regret not ED-ing to Upenn if you didn't get any of them? If yes, then I say ED.dietcoked wrote:Same sort of question as TheMule. I take back my previous statement. Looks like ED will actually help you if it's your first choice.AndyNewMan9240 wrote:Check out the numbers from last year. Applied just now with a CRS waiver. At the median LSAT and below 25th on GPA so probably a long shot, but what the hell.

To switch from regular decision to early decision, contact the admissions office at Penn Law and inform them. They will undoubtedly change your status to early decision, which will boost your chances significantly (navigating through the waitlist sucks).bosshawg wrote:How would you go about switching your app to ED? Yeah, the ED bump is very significant at Penn, in part because the school does not have a huge class size.bosshawg wrote:Thank you!
