Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
Una pregunta: I have my Skype interview this Friday and I was wondering if it would look dumb as hell if, at the end when they're like "any questions???????¿" I whipped out a notebook or piece of paper with questions written on it? I'm trying to avoid forgetting any of my questions in ~the heat of the moment~ but also trying to avoid looking derpy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Much love <3

Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
Not dumb at all. Maybe don't "whip it out" all dramatic, but I had a piece of paper with questions for my interview and other interviews I've had and had no problems. I just kept it to the side until the time I needed it (and used it as a guide, not straight up read from it). Better to have a piece of paper/notebook than you blanking out and looking dumb! Good luck on your interview!notorious_mig wrote:Una pregunta: I have my Skype interview this Friday and I was wondering if it would look dumb as hell if, at the end when they're like "any questions???????¿" I whipped out a notebook or piece of paper with questions written on it? Ahh you rock! Thank you so much. I'll jot some notes for my questions and keep it handy for the interview. Thanks again!!! And best of luck to you throughout the admissions process!!!Assasindowntheavenue wrote:Not dumb at all. Just received an email that I haven't been accepted ED but will still be considered in April
SIGH it was a long shot anyway. So do I consider this a deferral...?

Think of it this way: Some people getting fast turnarounds are getting them because they're being WL or dinged.lillawyer2 wrote:No news is good news right?!

Welp, made my first huge mistake of the cycle. Missed the part in the interview instructions that specifies Eastern Time... Annnd I feel like a massive idiot. They're letting me reschedule, but as a borderline applicant, I'm gonna go ahead and say this is a pretty solid negative.

Think positive thoughts and try not to let it carry through to your interview. You never know, maybe it's not as bad as you think.theothercat wrote:Welp, made my first huge mistake of the cycle. I had to search for the time zone because it wasn't really clear at first. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people made that mistake. Just blow them away in the new interview!theothercat wrote:Welp, made my first huge mistake of the cycle. Missed the part in the interview instructions that specifies Eastern Time... completely forgot my interviewer's name. I tried searching for her on the website but I can't find her. How weird is it to send a generic thank you note and leaving out my interviewer's name?

Thanks for the reassurance, y'all. <3
I felt like a garbage person at first, but I am just going to apologize honestly and hope for the best.

It wouldn't be totally weird, since you have to send the thank you to the general admissions email anyway. But it's always better to use the name, so have you searched your recent skype calls for it? My interviewer's skype handle was her name, and the handle is logged under "recents," so I just looked at that when I sent the thank you.dietcoke1 wrote:completely forgot my interviewer's name. +1, just a quick apology in your interview if they bring it up. Confidence is key. You're a strong applicant with great stats.mm2368 wrote:this is an honest mistake. please don't worry, nor should you be robotic about it in your explanation for it to them. they don't want these precision sharp shooters who can't carry a conversation but score 180s on LSATs.theothercat wrote:Welp, made my first huge mistake of the cycle. you did the most human thing a human being could do, i.e. fuck up. they're going to understand. you're a person! own it, and they'll appreciate it.

Not sending a thank you note is also a fine option. I really don't think it makes a difference.dietcoke1 wrote:completely forgot my interviewer's name. +1 it should say in her handle. That's how I looked my interviewer up. And I sent it to her Columbia.edu email, not the general admin email, but I think either way you're fine.harmcharm wrote:It wouldn't be totally weird, since you have to send the thank you to the general admissions email anyway. yea I tried that. But her Skype name doesn't correspond to anyone on the website. I guess I'll send one without the nameAssasindowntheavenue wrote:+1 it should say in her handle. Just curious, did you have an interview, and if yes, when? I am also ED and trying to figure out when I will receive an answer.nicola27 wrote:Just received an email that I haven't been accepted ED but will still be considered in AprilSIGH it was a long shot anyway. Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
as a reapplicant from last year, they send you a specific email saying your status is a "Hold." What they're saying is they're putting you back in the general pool for RD - in a hold they move you out of the pool and wait a bit to see who else applies. If it doesn't say Hold you're not on hold - they're really explicit about itnicola27 wrote:That's what I want to confirm, too... ETA: if they said April it might be an unofficial hold, but everything around being held said "HOLD" in really big letters last year so I'm just not sure it's exactly the same thing

so if its not a hold, an acceptance or a complete rejection then what is it?eck456 wrote:as a reapplicant from last year, they send you a specific email saying your status is a "Hold."
