Yeah, definitely a positive outlook for UF law.gator_guy93 wrote:It was during a scholarship negotiation. He was trying to give me a sense of what the incoming class is looking like and why I got the scholarship I got, etc. That was pretty much it! Just thought I'd share. It would be interesting to see those numbers hold though. That's a pretty good bump for both LSAT and GPA medians.Harry_Pluxen wrote:I was unaware that admissions offices shared such information. Do you have any more information?gator_guy93 wrote:Right now their predicted medians are 160 and 3.60, per the admissions office.Harry_Pluxen wrote:OK, a few points came to mind when reading the latest string of posts ITT.
I read the post mentioned a few posts back on the aligator.org regarding Dean Rossenburry's performance. Similarly, Mike Spivey mentioned that he saw bright things in UF law's future about a year ago when she was appointed as the new dean. Furthermore, her goals in the UF law magazine that I received in the mail a few weeks ago (the one with her smiling & hands on her hips, looking all proud) are in line with what I've been hearing here and what Spivey predicted last cycle. Basically, she wants to improve UF's prestige within FL and nationally. Hence the increase in scholarships, which are aimed at attracting high quality students...which will increase the rankings eventually, help with post-graduation employment, etc. I wonder how much of an impact all of this will actually have on the school's reputation in the end. We'll only really know 100% what the results are (so far) when our class profile is finalized in the fall of this year, since this still her first cycle in her new role as dean.
That being said, I don't know if a 161 is realistic as a new median for the class of 2019. Perhaps a 160 is more likely.

Should I wait until I have received the letter in the mail to fill out the acceptance form and pay my deposit?

Does anyone know how lenient UF is with extending the deposit deadline? I'm still waiting on scholarship info from one of my top choices and a decision from another one of my top choices. I'm worried that I won't be prepared to make a decision by April 1st.

Re seat deposit extensions: We grant brief extensions to allow students who have not yet visited, and who have a visit scheduled, time to do so. For example, our second admitted students day is Friday, April 8. Students who have registered for this event may request an extension until Monday, April 11 to allow them time to attend the ASD and reflect on the visit. We do not grant extensions simply because a student has yet to hear from other law schools. As always, I'm happy to talk/email with anyone who has additional questions.

For those coming to Admitted Students Day tomorrow I'd recommend checking out apartments while you are here. The vast majority of law students live along 34th st. at Cazabella, Point West, Village 34, and Camelot. They fill up pretty quickly, especially if you want a 1 bedroom, because they're so close to the school. They're open until 6 tomorrow so you will have time after ASD ends at 5.

What's the culture like ? How are the employments prospects looking ? How do students not staying in Florida feel about there chances of procuring employment outside of the state ?

Culture is very good. There are a lot of social events. For example last night was LawLawPalooza, our law school talent show at High Dive, a local concert venue. There are lots of student organizations for everyone to get involved with. I have a summer associate position with a big firm this summer and many of my friends do as well. I also personally know 3 2Ls that will be in NYC this summer, 2 at firms and 1 at the SEC. I have another friend working at a firm in San Antonio and know a few people working in Atlanta.__blah wrote:Roberrrrto wrote:Current 2L here.thelostweasley wrote:Woo! Basically, those that have the top grades and those that network do very well. The career center actively assists everyone else in finding a job. UF is the clear #1 law school in the state and with our new Dean, by the time you graduate we'll likely be ranked in the 30s.
I love it here. I got a great job. I've made a lot of great friends. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Re: University of Florida Levin College of Law c/o 2019
Hey everyone! I created an account just for this! I applied to Florida and now as I'm getting responses I'm realizing how much I really want to go there! My question is: how long did it take to hear back. I have been at "all documents received" for about 10 days. I was wondering if they keep it at that and change it when reviewing (most law schools I've applied to have changed the date of "under review" right before accepting that's why I ask). Actually, and insight would be helpful! Thanks!
Also my numbers: 153 and 3.42. I have an addendum about the LSAT because I practicing much higher and standardized tests have never represented my academic ability. Also, my last semesters in school I had a 3.85 so that GPA is very frustrating.
Thanks in advance!

Re: University of Florida Levin College of Law c/o 2019
I really like the culture. I had a great 1L section and get along with the vast majority of people at UF law. Law students are still law students but there aren't a lot of people that I can't stand. People tend to be very collaborative and treat each other well. After 1L year, people tend to break up into cliques but that's pretty normal. People have their group of close friends. But I still talk and interact with people outside of my group all the time. I've found the student body as a whole to be approachable and down to earth.__blah wrote:Roberrrrto wrote:Current 2L here.thelostweasley wrote:Woo! The employment prospects are what they are. I think you have to come into UF with your eyes wide open on that. The stats are the stats. I'd trust the numbers on that. The new Dean is going to do her best to raise them but I don't recommend coming into UF expecting that will automatically happen.
If you're not planning to stay in Florida, I don't know if UF is the best school for you. It'll depend on your goals. It's very much a regional school. It's strong in Florida because UF has a great network within the state. There are firms from outside of Florida that hire from UF but it's a relatively small number of students. There are some Atlanta firms that come in for OCI but if Atlanta is your goal, I'd definitely do my research into the top Georgia schools to determine if one of them is better for you. I'm not saying those schools will be better. It would depend on what each school is offering you in terms of scholarships but it's worth considering.
I interviewed with firms in NYC and DC but that's not the norm. You typically have to have top grades or really strong credentials to get those interviews. I know of 3 people working for firms in NYC this summer but they're all top of the class and on law review.
Anyways, I know this isn't the rosiest outlook but I'm trying to be straight with y'all. I love UF law and I am happy with the choice I made. Want the same for all of y'all!

Maybe, but it depends on whether her earlier postulation that the school is severely undervalued is actually true. I liked her speech and her enthusiasm, and I hope she delivers on that promise, but if I'm being honest, I think that's a lot of ground to make up. I heard from a bunch of 2Ls that she has said this year's median WILL be 160 or higher, so if you (like me) got in with a scholly with a 164, you should be jumping with joy that you struck when you did (I am certainly aware of my good fortune).__blah wrote:duras92 wrote:"By the time that you graduate from UF Law in 2019 we will be ranked at least 35th in the US World News - if not higher." - Dean Laura Rosenbury, March 18 2016.

I believe her. Just look what she did to the admissions process. It is way better. Specifically, decisions are faster, the academic statement requirement is gone, and Grant Keener is the man!Sonar80 wrote:Maybe, but it depends on whether her earlier postulation that the school is severely undervalued is actually true. In no other professional school is FSU ranked anywhere near UF. FSU Law was only able to rise because UF admissions were so bad that prospects that traditionally would have picked UF without a second thought would go to FSU. In my own case (current 2L), FSU admitted me in 2 weeks with a phone call from the admissions Dean and UF took 3 months with a snail mail letter. It is only because I could not convince myself FSU was better that I chose UF. Once all the top prospects choose UF instead of dividing between the schools as they do now, UF will climb the ranks again.

I wish you the best of luck but the new Dean has made it abundantly clear that the incoming class will have a median LSAT of 160 and GPA of 3.60. If you had a 3.9 or better GPA you may have a chance but with both numbers below the target median I strongly encourage you to retake.Mmdpvc wrote:Hey everyone! I created an account just for this!
