Received an email last night. It'll be an in person interview with a Texas alum in my area (Southern CA). I'm waiting to hear from the alum to set it up, I'll report back after!
Maybe others can confirm but this is brand new is it not?

I'm just under both medians. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, but I've known Texas residents who've gotten in with much lower scores than mine. I'm planning on riding it out because UT was definitely a top choice, I don't really know what to expect from the waitlist though and don't think I can wait until April or later to make a decision since $$ is a huge factor
Same boat. Texas is weird this cycle.

Financial aid grants/scholarship - I'll qualify for financial aid but it's my understanding that students accepted from the wait list usually don't receive much.

I received $$$ off of the waitlist, and I'm pretty sure there's someone else at UT and on TLS who had a similar experience last cycle. Your numbers might make that less likely, but that's one of the reasons you should retake the LSAT if you can.

Thanks for the feedback! Good to know there will still be money around if I get in. Unfortunately I am all out of LSAT retakes so just gotta roll the dice with what I have.
Also - when is the best time to send a LOCI? I'm tempted to send one ASAP

I also received money off the wait list. I took the June LSAT and improved my numbers, got off the list and got some money plus need-based aid. Paying 20kish a year plus cost of living (I'm extremely austere) makes it 30kish a year. I cannot emphasize enough that LSAT is everything. I'm anxious about my soon-to-be 100k (80kish, if 2L SA) debt, but it's justifiable at UT I think. If you're from TX AND want to practice in TX, there is no substitute, save for HYS and Duke (maybe).
Edit: grammar

Don't send it ASAP. I didn't even accept the waitlist spot till about a week and a half after it was extended, and didn't send anything after that till about a month. Even still it was a single, 2 paragraph email after a visit. I never called or treated it as a LOCI, but they did. I never sent a LOCI, and was never asked to send one. Didn't have any contact with admissions from May till early July when they accepted me (save one extra LOR I asked a prof to send for me, whenever he did).
It might be different now depending on timing with the new admissions, but I think it's better to wait and be "strategic" about it. Too eager and you come off as desperate. Of course, this is totally anecdotal, but I will say got this advice from someone else who successfully got off a WL a couple years ago and it worked for me.

Thank you for the info!! Yeah I already accepted the waitlist offer, but I'll wait on the LOCI... might take your advice on sending a brief email rather than a formal letter unless it's solicited.
I'm still waiting to hear from a bunch of other schools and have already been accepted to a few so thankfully I have options if UT doesn't pan out (but I hope it does)

They're handing out waitlist offers like candy! haha. I'm beginning to feel like anyone under the LSAT median is basically SOL.

Yes, but it does make me feel like they will pull quite a few from the wait list, maybe the new dean is trying to really up the medians this first year. I'm pretty sure this new interview process some are getting is really brand new.

Well I hope that they do pull a bunch of people off of the waitlist, myself included. I really do feel like some of us who have been waitlisted would have been accepted in previous cycles with the previous dean. It's made for a frustrating cycle for sure.

UT doesnt use the status checker to our benefit......
eta for those keeping track: applied at the beginning of the cycle. Phone call acceptance recently. 75th LSAT. Just under 25th GPA. This makes my choice even tougher.

Does anyone know how common it is for UT to offer in-state tuition to those who are admitted and OOS?

You would have to have a pretty compelling reason for them to consider you in state. Or if you're a vet and left <3 years ago they have to give you in state tuition.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
