I'm kind of a loner by nature so my perspective will be skewed, but I feel that there in general there is a cohesive sense of community at BC. Gunnerism is alive and well, but nothing cutthroat and scary.Snakebox wrote:Snakebox wrote:
Got in a few weeks ago! Still no word on scholarships, am I alone in that?
Also, BlueLotus- what made you pick BC over wherever else you were looking?
BC offered me the most scholly money (they are def willing to negotiate). Also, strong public interest program and desirable location. Other acceptances were W&M, Notre Dame, and Temple.
My numbers were 3.82/164.

How do you like the student life/ culture? Is there a strong sense of a cohesive identity or is it more individually focused? Thanks for helping us prospies out btw

Have you considered applying for a JAG slot? I'd be inclined to think they'd take a qualified applicant from BC considering I've met JAGs from "lesser" schools. At least for ANG.

They do that but they take very highly competent applicants. I think the Air Forces selection rate is <10%. I've looked into it because Im "gunning" for that career.mike0331 wrote:Have you considered applying for a JAG slot? I was thinking maybe the National Guard would be less competitive as they generally have a smaller more localized applicant pool. It's not a full time gig, but it's experience in the field and its a paycheck for about a year for all the training, and maybe some debt relief. At the very least I believe they freeze your loans during active duty stuff.cuboxing25 wrote:They do that but they take very highly competent applicants. I'm active duty Army and I had to pay my student loans even when I was in Afghanistan. JAG for Army is super selective. Check out the following link and PM for more information: http://www.goarmy.com/jag/funded-legal- ... ogram.htmlmike0331 wrote:I was thinking maybe the National Guard would be less competitive as they generally have a smaller more localized applicant pool. That's a good ballpark selection rate for JAG, as well as OTS (joining as a regular officer). Some people still have this mindset that the military is a good fallback option for a career, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. It's highly competitive - by the numbers, getting in to law school is easier. In addition, anyone trying to join as a "last resort" option rather than a desire to serve will likely be weeded out in the interview process.
That being said, I wouldn't trade my time in the Air Force for anything. Great life, good people, big impact. The level of responsibility I have is out of this world relative to my civilian peers in equivalent positions. There are definite friends/family/stability considerations, because you WILL move every 3-4 years and your spouse's career will be marginalized to a certain extent.

Re: Boston College C/O 2018 Applicants
You're definitely right. I think part (though not all) of the reason that admissions number is so low is because they're good at telling who actually wants to be there and who's just doing it because they couldnt get anything else. Im sure a few of those have slipped through the cracks but by and large from what Ive seen JAG (and obviously any officer position) is really difficult to get.mecarey wrote:Air Force Captain here.cuboxing25 wrote:They do that but they take very highly competent applicants. I figured JAGs are more of a specialized thing, I wasn't sure how many people, especially coming out of law school, actually wanted to do it. I honestly don't know that I would want to do it as active, maybe in the Guard.. I feel like I'd rather be flying or blowing stuff up or something if the paycheck is going to be the same. Just my .02
But anyway yea,
I didn't mean to pollute the thread.

Nope, and I definitely brought up what are traditionally "conservative issues" in my PS (2nd Amendment stuff).Bird Lawyer wrote:Not me, but that is hilarious. I would immediately withdraw haha.
