I'm guessing you're URM?musicdiplomacy wrote:haha, very true. it's a LOW gpa. i've been out of undergrad for 8 years now, so my app was mostly on my work experience. if you're an applicant who's just out of undergrad, then my stats/scores aren't a good comparison.

Having an LSAT and GPA considerably below their medians and getting accepted so early in the cycle is what made me reach that conclusion. The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of schools claim a holistic approach, but are actually numbers whores -- I highly doubt GULC is one of the exceptions. No offense was intended and I certainly wasn't passing judgement.

Understandable. At the same time, the relatively early acceptance is in line with many other people on this thread who had similar if not the same status updates as myself. As for the low numbers, to be blunt, my work experience mostly trumps them. Not specifically because of the years i've worked, but because my work experience is highly specific, hard to replicate, and directly ties into a rather specific branch of the legal field.HYSenberg wrote:Having an LSAT and GPA considerably below their medians and getting accepted so early in the cycle is what made me reach that conclusion. again, if i applied right out of undergrad with these numbers and just my softs from college, i doubt i'd get in. Though, now i'm curious. I'll ask on the URM board and see what others think.

I'm in a similar position being removed from UG with a few years of interesting WE so I can relate to your position. I do, however, regret giving the impression that I was undermining the validity of your acceptance. Congratulations and I hope that you continue your success this cycle.musicdiplomacy wrote:Understandable. It would be nice if, following the convention on other applicant spreadsheets for other schools, we could say what GPA/LSAT range we are without inputting our exact score.lawschool22 wrote:Google spreadsheet for tracking results:

It is a work in progress but at least will allow for us to get the data going. I will add some analysis to it when I have some spare time.
Let me know if you have ideas!

Submitted application on November 10 and received an e-mail invitation on November 12 for a group interview (?) with Dean Cornblatt. I have no idea what this interview is/signifies, especially since there is no way that they reviewed my application in a day...
Anyone else also get a group interview invite? Anyone know what it means to get an invite?

Same situation. I hear it's a pretty low-intensity group interview. Offered to a lot of people, including people on border-line acceptance and people with high numbers and in danger of being YPed.ShrimpToastMasters wrote:Submitted application on November 10 and received an e-mail invitation on November 12 for a group interview (?) with Dean Cornblatt. Re: Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
This means exactly what it sounds like: they want to interview you to see what you're like in-person, but don't have the time for the dean to conduct one-on-one interviews with everyone. It means they like you, and want to give you an additional forum to prove that you're a good candidate for them before they make a final decision.ShrimpToastMasters wrote:Submitted application on November 10 and received an e-mail invitation on November 12 for a group interview (?) with Dean Cornblatt.
Why do you assume that? I cannot imagine it takes a skilled admissions officer any more than 10 minutes to read over your application and decide you're good enough to be invited to an interview.ShrimpToastMasters wrote:especially since there is no way that they reviewed my application in a day...

I agree with this, which is why it is absurd that it takes some schools half a year to release a decision.binary_theatrics wrote:

I'm sure they can review an application in 10 minutes, but I would have guessed that there were applications received before mine that they needed to review first. I can't imagine they review each application the minute it's received.ohpobrecito wrote:I agree with this, which is why it is absurd that it takes some schools half a year to release a decision.binary_theatrics wrote:

ohpo, if you cop some hot dudes number, do you text him right away? No, of course you don't. You wait ten to twelve weeks to call him back. Why would law schools be any different? hthohpobrecito wrote:I agree with this, which is why it is absurd that it takes some schools half a year to release a decision.binary_theatrics wrote:

I thought about this, but that would reduce the utility of the analysis we can do on the numbers, and add the possibility of user error and variability in the data.midwest17 wrote:It would be nice if, following the convention on other applicant spreadsheets for other schools, we could say what GPA/LSAT range we are without inputting our exact score.lawschool22 wrote:Google spreadsheet for tracking results:

I made it so you can input literally any username you would like - so there is no way anyone can see who put in what data. From my end all I see is a bunch of anonymous users (anonymous1, anonymous2, etc.).

Re: Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
Congratulations on your acceptance! With regards to the bolded, however, there is very little evidence on TLS that this is true for the vast majority of applicants with similarly high-level, very impressive, work experience. Sure, when compared to applicants with similar numbers who lack that kind of experience, of course it helps--but you need to have the numbers to begin with. The fact that you were able to get in with sub-par numbers is almost assuredly due to the boost that schools give to URMs. Nothing against you of course--enjoy your acceptance, as you should!musicdiplomacy wrote:Understandable. Yep - I am planning on it. Thanks for the comments. It sort of came out of my own questions that I always seem to ask in every thread (how long does it take to hear back, etc.), and I figured there should be an easier way for people to get these sorts of answers. Plus I am bored at work and wanted something else to doohpobrecito wrote:This sheet is wonderful. Great job! Love the analytics, thank you! I interviewed exactly a week ago, and was going through the thread to try and figure out when I could expect to hear back, so having that data there is a big help.lawschool22 wrote:If you haven't already, please check out the new analytics tab in the spreadsheet:

Re: Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
You're welcome - I figured those "average days" figures could be useful. We have a lot of data on acceptance rates and expected outcomes, but not much on timing, which is what a lot of people in these threads are concerned about.leezabee wrote:Love the analytics, thank you! Lawschool22, just curious, when making the spreadsheet, what did you have in mind for the distinction between "unique" softs and "above average" softs?

Re: Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
For me, Unique would be the type of softs Yale would hype in its materials. Maybe I should change it to Exceptional? I could see how Unique may be misleading. I was thinking Astronaut, Nobel peace prize winner, published author, Afghan refugee, child of a President, etc. You can think of it on a 1-5 scale basically. Obviously this is hard to judge as it is highly subjective. But hopefully we'll get a bell curve (although I doubt it because TLS is somewhat self-selecting).pompoms wrote:Lawschool22, just curious, when making the spreadsheet, what did you have in mind for the distinction between "unique" softs and "above average" softs?
