Wait - did the email actually use the term "alternate"? Mine didn't. Could someone PM me this email? I'm curious to see how it differs from mine (I was also offered nothing).

I didn't ask for a full ride. I didn't give a number at all, I just said scholarships would play a big role and that I had a full ride to UCLA (it was the only scholarship I had at the time). Anyone else get the initial email and not have an answer yet?

Mine:

I am writing on behalf of the Scholarship Committee to follow up on your request for scholarship from Georgetown. As you can imagine, scholarship consideration is a complicated process. From your communication with us, it sounds like you are still considering your options for the Fall and need to gather some more information (including, perhaps, more scholarship information) before narrowing down your decision. At this time, the Committee invites you to continue to keep in touch with us as you consider your plans.

We have made some initial scholarship offers responses to which are due back by April 1st. Consequently, we will be able to update you with more information by April 9th.

We think it is best to be as candid as possible in this process. If you remain serious about coming to Georgetown, please email me at ---- or directly at --- with any updated information on your level of interest in Georgetown and what level of funding you think will make it possible for you to join us. I will continue to be your direct contact and will be happy to communicate any information to the Scholarship Committee.

As always, I am also here to answer any questions you may have. And I truly hope to welcome you here this fall.

Sincerely,
Alison Spada

I got a reply email from GULC shortly after I showed interest in a scholarship. I'm probably at the bottom of the pile because of a relatively late process, but so far still in the running.

I was honest in the email - Georgetown is one of my top choices, but the CoL in DC will make it one of my most expensive options, especially considering my acceptances to schools X and Y (LS with the lowest CoLs in the t14). I probably low-balled myself with that statement - their offer may be to compensate for just the higher cost of living and nothing else.

Strange. I received something similar, but it specifically identified me as an alternate. It also wasn't as inviting or positive as the above email. It was almost like they put me on a waitlist for scholarship funding...

At this time, we have made some initial scholarship offers and have designated you as an Alternate. As you can imagine, this is a complicated process and due to the extremely strong group of applicants this year, we were forced to make some very difficult initial decisions. However, we are hopeful that we will be able to extend additional scholarship offers to at least some of our small group of Alternates.

That's the crux of the biscuit.

Oh shit.

I haven't filled out any fin aid forms at all. Did I miss the deadline to be considered for merit aid? Or is that regardless of whether you filled out the fin aid forms?

Thank you for your email. I am responding on behalf of Dean Cornblatt to let you know that we received it and will, of course, consider you for scholarship funding. We appreciate your candor and all of the information you provided. For now there is no additional information that we need, but I will be back in touch if the Committee needs something more.

To give you an idea of this year’s timeline, the Committee plans to make our initial scholarship awards via e-mail beginning in early March, and will continue to award scholarships on a rolling basis. For those students who are offered merit scholarship awards, the response deadline will be in early April. I will be coordinating the scholarship process. If you have any questions at all about scholarships or anything else, please contact me via hotline@law.georgetown.edu or directly at ams252@law.georgetown.edu

Our office will be in touch in the coming weeks to let you know what’s going on from our end, but feel free to check in with me any time. And, in the meantime, have a great rest of the week.

---

I hope this means some money for me. I was very candid in saying that it would take a lot of money to make me relocate to DC, particularly with offers still rolling in and being admitted to Michigan. I would go to GTOWN if I received aid, but certainly not at sticker.

Congratulations to those with scholarship e-mails! To those with alternate emails/no email, don't give up!

To everyone: be sure to fill out your need based forms, georgetown can be surprisingly generous with need based money.

I received almost the exact same email, except the final sentence of the first paragraph was "We know it’s early, but we are interested in knowing such things as where Georgetown fits into your thinking and what level of funding would make a difference in your decision." It didn't say they had all the info they needed. I guess that means they want to know more about my thinking?

After the admitted students days at NYU, GULC would have to offer good $$ to win my heart back.

Yeah, I didn't have any offers yet so I basically wrote what you wrote, that scholarships would definitely play a big role in my decision making process.

I have not received any emails regarding merit aid (My numbers don't quite warrant any automatic consideration for merit aid). However, I sent out an email requesting the Admissions Office to consider me for merit aid. Any aid from GULC and I will be send in my deposit on the same day.

Hmm I thought I read somewhere that GULC requires a copy of your tax form to be sent, but I can't find it anymore. Can anyone help me out?

Got a scholarship offer from GTown. Good amount, so that's cool. BUT, I did notice that in order to accept it, I have to submit the seat deposit by April 1st - the original date wasn't until May 1st (I should know - I literally made an Excel spreadsheet that outlines the deadlines, ASDs, expenses, etc of all the schools I applied to).

I like GTown, but I do intend to visit several other schools before making my decision - more than half of the visits will be after April 1st...I'll have to try and negotiate that date.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
