I sent an LOCI and an additional recommendation letter with updated transcript through first semester senior year (3.. I've also been in continual email contact with Kathy.

Hey all, this is my first post but I've been following this thread. I have my heart set on ASU, and like for many of you, the wait is driving me nuts! I was hesitant to submit a LOCI and/or additional LOR's because I had been advised by professors that it's not appropriate to do before a decision is made. However, it seems like it's the right thing to do if you want it this bad? haha. Is that the recommendation? I'd like to do anything that would help my case! Thanks!

No I haven't. No decision has been made on my app at all-hence why I was advised not to. When I spoke to Kathy this morning I asked if it would be appropriate to do even with no decision and she said yes. I just want to make sure I still wouldn't be doing myself a disservice.

I wouldn't think it will count against you. Go for it. If you don't do it, you'll always wonder what would have happened if you did.

I'm sure they do. The deadline for seat deposits is approaching. After that (seeing who matriculates and who doesn't), they will have a better idea of what they're looking for/ how many more people they should send acceptances to.

Also, I'm pretty sure they're increasing the class size which could work in your favor

Yea, I've heard. (check my profile)

You'll find out in the official acceptance letter which comes in the mail roughly a week after the initial (email) acceptance.

Well, alas, I wasn't in that wave of acceptances. I did receive an email from Kathy today (as a reply to mine) that a decision STILL hasn't been made, and that I should continue to watch my mail or email. She said they hope to have all decisions made by the end of the month. Rawrrrr. I'm slowly starting to hate my chances more and more.

When I went to fall law day, Dean Soto told me they take students with those numbers if they show an overwhelming desire to attend ASU. Plus your numbers could compensate for my high LSAT and lower gpa.

I've been trying to do that. From additional recommendation letters, to a personalized LOCI, to updated transcripts (3.8 ) to unfortunately bombarding Kathy with emails lol. Would you have any other suggestions? Do I dare try and contact Dean Soto directly?

Do I dare try and contact Dean Soto directly?

Dean Soto said to me multiple times that you need to make a "compelling argument". She said some of the lower numbers got in because they contacted her and made a compelling argument on why ASU should take them. She also said she had people contact her and they couldn't make a "compelling argument", and they were denied.
When I talked to her, I wanted a few things from ASU (long story), she told me to email the administrators in charge and cc her on the emails and if she felt it was a "compelling argument", she would make sure I got it.

I felt I couldn't make an overwhelming "compelling argument" for one of my requests so I didn't submit it, for the other one I did and my request was granted. It took me nearly a week of redrafting the request, it was a lot of work but kind of fulfilling at the same time.

I don't know if this is too vague, but I thought it might help.

Do you have new information to give them? New job? Promotion? Honors? Awards? Throw it all at them.

I've personally never found it a bad idea to send an LOCI. I don't necessarily see how it could hurt, but rather help. I think if you don't send one, you'll instead always wonder what if you had sent in (should you not get in). Plus, Kathy is quite nice and will see the enthusiasm behind it. As for email or snail mail, I'm not sure it matters. Some people on here say snail mail, but I've sent through email and gotten a response back that it was received and added to my file. Up to you, really.
