Re: In at Berkeley!
Any of you guys feeling slightly uncomfortable with the fact that Berkeley is likely to be the first school to crack 80k COA(in our third year so many of us would have residency)? It is currently blowing my mind to think about..

Re: In at Berkeley!
Berkeley is required to keep tuition at 90% of the market rate for residents. So if you're paying resident tuition, it won't be the first school to crack 80k, and will never get there unless the other schools do the same, no?tkgrrett wrote:Any of you guys feeling slightly uncomfortable with the fact that Berkeley is likely to be the first school to crack 80k COA(in our third year so many of us would have residency)? Which is why residency is very important. However, if their need-based guideline don't get bumped at the same rate, then we theoretically should receive extra grants to cover the increase anyway. I remain hopeful about the grant situation.tkgrrett wrote:Any of you guys feeling slightly uncomfortable with the fact that Berkeley is likely to be the first school to crack 80k COA(in our third year so many of us would have residency)? Re: In at Berkeley!
This is what I was thinking. And really, it's not as though there is an enormous difference in % between Berkeley and most of the schools ahead of it on that list. Factor in the % of graduates who go to boutique firms, the above-average number that go into PI and clerkships, and I think that these numbers speak pretty well of Boalt. I've never understood the obsession with this listr6_philly wrote:Actually I think it's very impressive even without considering the other factors. Certainly looks like it's outperforming most peers even though NYC is not the primary market.

Okay, I'm chronically late on all this aid application business. I need to write an essay for this?

I'm so confused, I probably should've read through these admitted students sites like... when I was admitted.

Ahh- I forgot to do the supplemental application for need based aid, which was due yesterday. I hope it isn't too much of an issue if I turn it in today....

I think it should be okay; I read somewhere on the financial aid website that they don't even receive your FAFSA stuff till mid/late March.aesis wrote:GAH, same!fish52 wrote:Ahh- I forgot to do the supplemental application for need based aid, which was due yesterday. Can any current Boalties comment on this?? Will writing an essay legitimately put you into contention, or is it just to whittle down the pool of numbers-qualified people? I'm not going to get any money based on my numbers, but if they'll give some for the essays, I'll sure as hell write one...ahduth wrote:Okay, I'm chronically late on all this aid application business. Yikes, I hadn't seen the deadline for the scholarship essay either. Then again, I got admitted through CR1 and only got my Cal ID four days ago, and I think it would be a little silly to expect us to have written the essay so quickly. Plus there are still more admits pending right? I sure hope it's not a firm deadline...

Harvard is seriously the only school I'm considering right now other than Berkeley. I found out in an email from Mrs. Alvarez. Just found out, also said they have some summer scholarship money available if I want to do PI.aesis wrote:Congrats! How'd you find out? Will you be entertaining your JR1 then? Re: In at Berkeley!
A little more info since I guess not to many people have got scholarship money.
I got it in an email from Mrs. Alvarez, it is 34 the first year 33 the other two years. No grade stip (do T14 do this?) I just have to stay in good academic standing. It also said: Please note that we also make summer funding available to students working in the public interest if you choose to pursue that path. Oh and I have to decide by April 15th and if I accept it I have to withdraw from all other schools. Hope that helps.

That's slick as hell. Did you write this little supplemental essay on their website? It sounds like I should be doing that...

You got your own way and who knows you might get more money. I was just scared they'd run out so I figured might as well do it as early as possible.r6_philly wrote:Wow awesome! Congrats!unc0mm0n1 wrote:A little more info since I guess not to many people have got scholarship money.

I'm sure you'll get something good. I don't know when they release that though. It seems like they do it very late.BackToTheOldHouse wrote:I'm just dying to hear back about need based aid . . .
