Re: Illinois 2011 applicants!
lol here is my paraphrased version: The locals call it Champaign-Urbana or C-U, but since the school's administration, etc. is located in Urbana, they decided to use Urbana-Champaign.thelaststraw05 wrote:Don't leave us hanging... what is the answer?thewarflamingo wrote:I love how on page 15 of the flipbook pdf version on the USB drive it answers the question of "Champaign-Urbana or Urbana-Champaign?" because I've been so confused by this for the past couple of weeks
Personally, I think Urbana-Champaign sounds better.

Re: Illinois 2011 applicants!
This admissions video is making me feel warm and fuzzy. I had assumed I wouldn't be affected by admissions material since I wasn't affected by viewbooks, but wow. I'm going to dream of C-U.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

I opted not to be put on the waitlist.
2.9, 169
I've already got acceptances from schools higher on my list, but this still stings.

Re: Illinois 2011 applicants!
Dean Pless,
First of all, thank you for all of the great work that you do on this board. I have been reading this board for quite some time and have gained much valuable insight from your posts. Attending Illinois would be a dream. I plan on having my application submitted within the next 2 weeks. However, I do have a question that I hope you will be able to answer.
While I hold an MA, my diploma was earned 5 years after I initially enrolled. The vast majority of my coursework was completed in 2 years, and my masters thesis was completed 3 years after I enrolled, but I unfortunately allowed two "incompletes" to remain on my record for quite some time before completing the coursework. There were, of course, extenuating circumstances that led to my not being able to concentrate on academic work at the time.
I plan on submitting an addendum regarding this turn of events explaining the extenuating circumstances, however I am wondering if you would be able to offer any guidance regarding how much this will hurt my prospects at your school or any other, for that matter. I realize that 5 years is a long time to complete a MA program, and my fear is that this is basically a deal breaker. I understand that there are so many factors that go into an admissions decision and that it is probably difficult to make any judgment based upon limited information, but any and all help with this matter will be very greatly appreciated.

UIUC seems to prefer splitters over reverse-splitters. sucks for me.

If there's anything I've learned from watching UIUC's decisions play out, its that your numbers definitely don't guarantee you anything.
