Anyone else get a letter from Sandra Day O'Connor in the mail? It just extolls the virtues of studying in Arizona, and it talks about the good things ASU is doing.
Unfortunately, it's machine signed, not actually signed by her.

Over the phone. I had mentioned I was trying to make a quick decision based on seat deposits, and so they got back to me quickly. Came as a big surprise to me to be honest, but I'm thrilled. I've got a tough decision to make, but it's going to be really hard to pass up ASU.How did she contact you?

I've narrowed it down to Arizona State and Florida State

Cool, did you get any money at either school? Have you visited either? Which way are you leaning?j32f wrote:I've narrowed it down to Arizona State and Florida State

Not from FSU and I don't know about Arizona yet. I've visited FSU and really liked it there. Although I've been in phoenix a few times, I haven't seen their campus. As for where I'm leaning... I really don't know. I guess I'll wait till I get the packet to make a choice. With the seat deposits coming up, I'll make a decision in the next week.

You have a tough choice ahead of you. I should have applied to FSU as well (better state economy currently), but my wife wouldn't let me.j32f wrote:Not from FSU and I don't know about Arizona yet. How weird! FSU is the school I decided on after never hearing from ASU. I'm really happy with the decision, as I think I will have more opportunities in such a populous state. Sad to leave Phoenix though : (j32f wrote:Not from FSU and I don't know about Arizona yet. I've visited FSU and really liked it there. Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
They don't owe us continuel updates, but the school can't give applicants some kind of decision after 6 months? Some of us applied back in November and December. At least tell us we are on hold or waitlisted, if not just outright reject us. Like I posted earlier, the other major state school, Arizona, was able to do that.skamike wrote:No one said anything about ignorant idiots. Look, I know this is a stressful time for a lot of people, and if you want to rant and rave about things, go ahead, but you can't deny that if you haven't heard anything from ASU yet, the likelihood of acceptance is dwindling.sundevil77 wrote: Of course you're not trying to be a downer...you're trying to be a douche. Telling people they are ignorant idiots when they have legitimate concerns is not a great way to make friends.
They have admissions staff working all year. To say that the majority of people haven't been accepted is misguided. Of course they have. What school would wait 6 months before starting to fill their class?
But back to the original point of my posts. There is no need to legitimately upset at ASU for lack of communication. They don't owe you continual updates, and they don't risk pissing off a large contingent of their future students because they already have the majority of their class.
Anyways, I understand this is a thread for hope, optimism, and waiting. But don't forget reality. It's easy to get too wrapped up in all this.
I have no illusions about my shot at getting in. I am certain I will be either waitlisted or outright rejected. It would just be nice to get something in writing. Or shit, at least an email saying they are working on it. I am still waiting on Santa Clara (another school I likely won't go to even if I get in) but at least they send me an email every so often basically saying "sorry for the wait, but we haven't forgotten about you, and we hope to tell you soon about a decision". If Santa Clara can do it, why not ASU?

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
The answer is because that just slows down the process. As mepg mentioned, they're already fielding tons of emails and phone calls. If you've been waiting since then, that really does suck. But it is what it is. I guess it's that whole "don't sweat the small stuff" attitude. In 3 months, this will be a distant memory. No reason to raise your blood pressure in the meantime.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
I don't sweat it as I have been accepted into other decent schools and I'm riding a wait list on a school I'd rather go to than ASU anyway. However the point is that there is no reason why ASU can't send out an email like Santa Clara does it. Would that slow things down that much? Really? Can ASU be flooded with that many more applicants than Santa Clara? Or how about Arizona who I have heard from? I just can't believe that a school like Santa Clara could do it but ASU could not. Some students are more invested in ASU than I am and I really sympathize for them.

I think the letter was sent to appeal to recent female admits...

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
After reading all the posts here I noticed a disconnect between what Kathy was saying about how notices are sent out and what posters were telling me...most of the admits say they got a call from Dean Soto or received an e-mail.
So I was PRAYING I didn't get anything in the mail.
Well, praise the Lord, this evening there was a strange (480) number on my cell phone...with a surge of hope I answered it, hoping a female voice would ask for me by name and that's exactly what I got...
I am admitted.

Sooooo jealous. I've received about 8 random 480 calls in the past week. Each one more disappointing than the last...

Completely off subject, but seeing as I've been unwilling to allow myself to do anything other than stress about decisions, I've been forcing myself to go on various random wikipedia adventures as a distraction. I'm curious, Al, what caused you to pick Alvin Adams as your SN. I've narrowed it down to one or any combination of the five points below:
1. You were a Supply Chain major at ASU
2. You have some familial connection to Mr. Adams (or perhaps a palm reader said you were him in a past life)
3. You are a drug dealer and you admire pioneers in the world of distribution
4. You were a fan of Alvan Adams and thought you would honor him by misspelling his name and utilizing it in another context
5. You completely randomly chose some obscure dude for shits and giggles
Am I warm...?

2. no. i went to the palm reader on apache when i was drunk but i was kicked off the premises.
3. close, but drugs are illegal and that would be wrong and i would never do it.

4. closer.
5. closer.
some combination of [3,4,5] + surfing wikipedia (see 3) + posting in a forum where 'alvan adams' was taken + unwavering support for allen iverson
