this is correct. I had to appear before the residency panel and answer questions for around half an hour.


what kind of questions did they ask you that weren't already covered in the documentation you submitted?

honestly, I don't remember specifics. It has been 14 years. The general idea is pretty simple though: in state tuition is heavily subsidized by NC taxpayers and UNC has a cap on the number of OS students it can take. The institution has an obligation to the legislature and to NC taxpayers to try to make sure that the people paying the subsidized rate are NC residents already or, if they are seeking residency, that they are likely to remain in the state. So, the board is essentially trying to glean how likely it is that you will stay in NC after school. If you are just going to eat and run, they aren't interested in picking up the tab.

Yes. I actually did IM soccer wit a 3L this year and Im a senior at UNC

and jbrowning. Count me IN haha.

It isn't just UNC, and it isn't just law schools. My undergrad institution was the same way. It's nearly impossible to do this without spending some time living in the state without being a student. I had a roommate in UG who moved up from Miami to go to my school, and he ended up having to take quite a bit of time off because he couldn't get in state tuition while being a student there.

So true. Although rumor was that they were hoping to most acceptances done by March 1, they were ahead of schedule, etc. I've definitely been psyching myself out.

Who knows? I'm pretty sure they said all decisions would go out via snail mail, but they've been doing most acceptances by e-mail and others by phone. As long as they accept me, I don't care how they decide to do it

UNC, even as an OOS, is becoming my number 1 choice right now which has caused me to be on edge for the past few weeks. If this is just something that has taken on an internet "truthiness" to it I would want to know for my sanity.

May first would be sooooo late. all of my other schools first seat deposits are due by then
