That's actually totally a real job. I have a friend who works for CID and her job largely consists of finding information for cases on social media. Like, they use it to track down suspects and find evidence and stuff.

ETA She once broke a case by finding the perpetrator for a pretty serious crime on Facebook. He had posted all sorts of incriminating stuff. Criminals are stupid.
