Theory: JS is coordinating with Columbia, Berkeley, and everywhere I've ever applied for a job to give me a panic attack.

Sure, but I suppose if I sit without a JS1 for quite a while I can then start to assume that I'm likely getting dinged, right?

My new theory, especially since we seem overdue, is that JS is monitoring this thread, and she puts off JS2s whenever we predict a day

Whoever predicted Thursday a few days ago looks like they may have made a good guess, otherwise it will be very surprising how long we have waited since the last round of calls.

I'm not that surprised. I said a while back that they were probably going to wait longer than normal, because they wanted to see how the applicants were shaping up. My theory was they were a little disappointed with what they had seen so far, and would wait until more December people applied. Then they extended the application deadline, which made me believe this even more. Lots of people disagreed with my theory though FWIW We still won't ever know "why" they're taking longer, but that's my guess anyway.

I'm not that surprised. I said a while back that they were probably going to wait longer than normal, because they wanted to see how the applicants were shaping up. That seems reasonable. It would be very unlikely to have to wait much longer (such as until after the next round of JS1s) though, wouldn't it? Seems like that would be a strong departure from previous years and from the general pattern other schools follow, but I haven't seen too much data tbh.

That only happened before they accepted people off the WL last cycle. Whether you had a JS1 before or after you were JSW'd, they would do a JS1b to make sure you would still attend if accepted. Then you'd get the JS2 the next day or something.
