FWIW, I am a KJD and didn't get any variation of the "why now?"
Or "would you take time off" questions in my JS1.

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
i dont think its a bias against K-JD exactly. I think solid 1-2 years work experience in a challenging field that will aid a legal career can be considered a meaningful soft though. So it's more like missing a potential soft than being plotted against, but there's lots of softs lots of people are missing and they get in regardless.
So, I am starting to think Tuesday is typically HLS JS2 day because they use Monday to read through some JS1 reports and make final decisions. Given today is national holiday I suspect this week will go something like this.
Tuesday - Radio Silence (reviewing completed JS1s, remember they gave JS2 on Friday already so clearly they need time to review the next batch before more calls)
Weds. your traditional Tuesday js-2 free-for-all
Thurs - JS1 day
Friday - Hold/Ding Day

Do we have any insight into their interviewing schedule for the week?az21833 wrote:i dont think its a bias against K-JD exactly. Yeah, I do see what you mean. I guess I was just kind of confused by how much that would matter given exploration of other fields/industries during summer internships. Or if there is something inherently special about FULL-TIME WE that makes it desirable for HLS.sabanist wrote:I didn't mean to suggest that more time out means that people get a better LSAT score. More like, the kind of people who do absurdly well on the LSAT are also going to be the kind of people who do their research on law school and the legal market and perhaps try their hand at something else before taking the plunge. Does that make any more sense?
From what I recall when signing up for my JS1, all Wednesdays for the next few weeks were available for interview sign-ups. So make of that what you may--I don't know if JS2s and JS1s can fall on the same day or not.ManOfTheMinute wrote:Do we have any insight into their interviewing schedule for the week?

Solid. Also, I would not count out JS2s going out tomorrow just because it is a "monday." At this point in the application cycle, I doubt that JS/KB are taking the day off given that its not a real holiday and plenty of people (read: me) don't have the day off. Therefore, this week's Tuesday could in fact be like any other Tuesday!

HLS classes are meeting today.
I'd be very surprised if the admissions office was closed.

For what it's worth, after I answered the "Why aren't you taking time off?" question, JS explicitly said something along the lines of, "That's a totally fair reason. We just want to make sure you're not applying because Mommy and Daddy think it's a good idea."carboncopyx wrote:Yeah, I do see what you mean. So my impression is that as long as K-JD's have a demonstrated interest in or compelling reason to go to law school, they should be fine. If they don't, a year or two of WE can provide those reasons or at least demonstrate independence on the part of the applicant.

Pretty sure the exact question of k-JD proportions was asked when JS came to my school for an HLS info session (although it could have been YLS... All those sessions kind of blur together haha) fwiw she responded that the proportion of admitted k-jd's roughly reflects the proportion of k-JD applicants. However she cited "one third" as the proportion, which doesn't exactly reflect the stats posted earlier, so who knows. Figured I'd contribute what little knowledge I have!

There is an interview from last year with JS that says this:carboncopyx wrote:I love you. Full interview: http://www.admissionsdean.com/researchi ... sica-sobanYes, we do have a conscious preference for having the majority of our class entering with work experience. That said, I think we are comfortable with the composition we have had in the past few years, and we don’t have any plans to increase the percentage of people entering with post-college work experience to more than roughly three-quarters of the class. So, in the hypothetical case of two otherwise “identical” files, the person who had work experience would be more likely to get a spot than one who did not. BUT, here’s a very important distinction that I’m not sure everyone notices: Our class profile focuses on the enrolling class, not the admitted students. We have a liberal deferral policy at HLS. Students are very often admitted straight from college, then choose to take time off before enrolling. I think that’s a very exciting option. College seniors who are ready to apply now, but not necessarily ready to enter next fall, should certainly still apply.

It's the heart of admissions season.... I doubt the powers that be took the day off for a made up holiday that people don't really care about. And, don't pretend like you won't still be compulsively checking it and going ape shit every time it vibratesaz21833 wrote:doubt js2s tomorrow then. they have had no time to deliberate. if they already had their minds made we would have heard on friday with the others. putting the phone away til weds

I've just realized this today. I wish they hadn't started taking people out of the hold pile. I had three weeks of peace and sanity. Now I'm back to my old pre-JS1 neurotic self.

I forbid you from posting on here unless it's you announcing your JS2. Every time I see you as the most recent post in this thread, I have a mini-heart attack for you. I feel like a mother hen.az21833 wrote:js2 floodgates open...soon....within 48 hours i bet
