Thanks everyone, very helpful! I missed the phone call and they didn't mention May 20th in the voicemail. I would be ecstatic for a bit of $$ from them and the chance to stay in NYC.
Congrats to all the other new admits and good luck to all those still waiting!

Both things are also in the envelope I got. "Soon, you will receive a package of materials describing...."JamesDean1955 wrote:Guys/gals I'm confused. I received a UPS envelope, inside of which was a purple envelope, which contained my admit letter. No pizza box. UPS mychoice says my package has been delivered.
Is this it, or is something else supposed to be on the way? Also, someone mentioned we have to deposit by May 20th (I think) - where did that person get there info from?
Doesn't say anything in the letter...
and the acceptance page says "This form and your deposit must be received by our office on or before Monday May 20"

How do you guys know that NYU starting processing your financial aid application already? Did you submit their institutional form instead of Need Access?

Is the package delivered by UPS as well? My UPS tracking number says that the letter won't arrive until next Tuesday...

Link to check your Fin Aid status: https://faaps.law.nyu.edu/studentmain.html
Good thing you said that, the second page in my envelope was stuck (practically glued) to the first, never noticed it.bailey8078 wrote: Both things are also in the envelope I got. "Soon, you will receive a package of materials describing...."

No problem. Are you having as difficult a time trying to decide between nyu and Penn as I am? I emailed Penn this morning to see if they wanted to try to convince me stayJamesDean1955 wrote:Link to check your Fin Aid status: https://faaps.law.nyu.edu/studentmain.html

Not yet (still definitively on Penn), but only because I haven't received any aid from NYU yet. If they do offer some..it would be a very hard choice. In terms of schools I've wanted to go to (since the beginning of the application cycle), it's always been:
1. CLS
2. NYU & Penn (both a close second)
And Columbia is probably going to start pulling from their reserve at the end of this month, which could add to the difficulty.

Mine says "Application Not Started" on that page, because I submitted a Need Access, not the FAAPS application.JamesDean1955 wrote:Link to check your Fin Aid status: https://faaps.law.nyu.edu/studentmain.html

Hmmm I never actually submitted anything NYU-specific (mine says "Your application has been submitted and is currently being reviewed." on the Home page). If you view your application as a PDF (using your DoB as a password "mmddyyyy") it looks like they just pulled everything from Need Access.fallingup wrote:Mine says "Application Not Started" on that page, because I submitted a Need Access, not the FAAPS application.JamesDean1955 wrote:Link to check your Fin Aid status: https://faaps.law.nyu.edu/studentmain.html
Did you just recently do the Need Access? That could be why.

My financial aid application says in final stage of review, we should know in the next week if we were wait-list admits, right?

I only briefly glanced at it, but I interpreted the enrollment and deposit form as saying that they need to physically receive your check by May 20, 2013 (i.e. the 20th is not a post-mark date). Is that correct?Jacq2212 wrote:My financial aid application says in final stage of review, we should know in the next week if we were wait-list admits, right?
If so, I would expect them to notify us by Monday or Tuesday of next week for Fin Aid. I could physically walk the check over to their offices, but some people may be mailing their checks from CA...

Gotcha. Not used to the pay by credit card option lol. So I would hope Fin Aid would be finalized by next Friday.

Re: NYU C/O 2016 Applicants Thread!!! (Woooooo!!!!!)
questions (if anyone happens to have any insight or thoughts):
how do schools decide how many waitlisted people to admit with each "wave?"
(for example, if after a deposit deadline a school is 30 people short, do they admit 30 in that waitlist wave? or do they over admit knowing some people will decline? or do they admit a under that "30," knowing they'll admit another wave, just wanting to get some decisions out quickly?)
second, do we expect nyu to not admit anymore from the waitlist until after the may 20 deposit deadline for the waitlist admits?
third, do we expect another "wave" of admits or after this one just individuals getting admitted here and there?
and congrats to all those who were recently admitted!!

Can't answer your first question, but for the other two see my .02 above.alphebetagamma wrote:questions (if anyone happens to have any insight or thoughts):

second, do we expect nyu to not admit anymore from the waitlist until after the may 20 deposit deadline for the waitlist admits? Highly improbable (just going by common sense), it's only another 6 business days, so I highly doubt it, plus see my answer to your third question
third, do we expect another "wave" of admits or after this one just individuals getting admitted here and there? In past recent cycles, there were multiple "waves" so to speak. However, whether it will be "waves" or simply trickles of a handful of people once in awhile, I don't know. Keep in mind the small sample size of TLS and LSN, and a "wave" is kind of a subjective term. I wouldn't have considered this past round of admits a wave if I were to just go by TLS/LSN. Columbia typically has waves, because they have multiple reviews were they supposedly review their entire waitlist, then admit/reject people (Reserve 1, R2, etc.)

Ok, so I'm starting to look at housing, the deadline is May 15th, I know I want to go to NYU, but I was waiting to hear about finaid before I submitted my deposit and enrolled....Does anyone have any ideas on how best to negotiate this? If you accept before hearing about finaid will they not give you any?....

Re: NYU C/O 2016 Applicants Thread!!! (Woooooo!!!!!)
I think I am going to send them an email asking if they could extend the housing deadline under the circumstances. I would suggest you do the same, unless you're comfortable paying sticker or forfeiting the deposit?Jacq2212 wrote:Ok, so I'm starting to look at housing, the deadline is May 15th, I know I want to go to NYU, but I was waiting to hear about finaid before I submitted my deposit and enrolled....Does anyone have any ideas on how best to negotiate this? I don't see an alternative.

I am confused, I looked at the loan amounts and it gives $1700 a month for room and board, but the apartments in student housing are more than that?! I am reading this correctly that the monthly prices are per person, right?

If you're using the above, it should come out to $2,413 a month for room and board. Keep in mind schools usually quote these expenses for the academic year, so only for 9 months not 12, hence the $2,413. If you wanted to spread it out over 12 months it would be $1,810.00. It says on that page though that they will adjust your budget if you have a reasonable request, so I wouldn't think it would be a problem to get more.
Also, idk about NYU, but Penn guarantees a $4k stipend for 1L summer work. I would imagine NYU would be at least that much.

We have a $4500 stipend for public interest or government work 1L summer (and they'll allow up to $1500 in additional outside funding). 2L summer if you're not going the firm route the stipend is higher, but I'm not sure what it is.JamesDean1955 wrote:http://www.law.nyu.edu/financialaid/bud ... /index.htmJacq2212 wrote:I am confused, I looked at the loan amounts and it gives $1700 a month for room and board, but the apartments in student housing are more than that?!
