Reserve is WL. There is another option: being on "hold," which is worse than an acceptance, of course, but better than a WL.phonepro wrote:is the only options for columbia accept/reject/on reserve. or is there a difference b/w waitlist and on reserve?

Reserve = waitlist..phonepro wrote:is the only options for columbia accept/reject/on reserve. or is there a difference b/w waitlist and on reserve?
There are 4 options to get:
Accept/reject/reserve/hold
Hold just means they didn't do anything, but they'll get back to you sometime in april... After hold you can get accept reject or reserve.

Eek! My complete date. When was the letter dated? 2/10 or 2/11, or some time later?phonepro wrote:Application went complete January 26th. Just received a letter today, "on reserve". Any idea of chances? Whats a LOCI (sorry i'm new here!)
Sorry to hear that, and good luck with getting off the reserve list!

Re: Columbia 2010
So from what I understand the way first reserve works is at the end of May they either accept/reject/or hold you to the second reserve. Is this correct? I think I could hold out on the WL till the end of May, but if I got held over to the 2nd reserve I would probably have to withdraw (unless I get into NYU, then I'd probably stay because I'd already be coming to NYC so it wouldn't be a problem).

same - with a 165, total shock. I guess they are holistic! Do we have any stats on getting off reserve? Do you think you'll do LOCI or more letters of rec or anything?dancinginseptember wrote:On reserve!

Re: Columbia 2010
I stopped following this thread many pages ago, so I'm not sure if there are still others in a similar situation, but I'm rather confused about my lack of communication from Columbia. I went complete around Thanksgiving, stats both above the 75th, and I've got nothing. I also doubt that I have a red flag in my app since I have several other comparable acceptances. In the wake of recent acceptances/holds/reserves this seems odd to me.
Anyone have insight on this?

Could be YP...there's a theory floating around here that Columbia wants to see real interest from people who are strong contenders at HYS.expat wrote:I stopped following this thread many pages ago, so I'm not sure if there are still others in a similar situation, but I'm rather confused about my lack of communication from Columbia. My roommate just IMed me and said I got a big packet...not sure what color. Does a big packet mean good news? They wouldn't send a big packet just to say they rejected you, right?
On edit: She said it's like the color of split pea soup. Is that a good sign?

Yup, looks like it! I couldn't stand to wait so I asked my roommate to open it for me. She said it says congratulations, so I guess I'm in!MTC87 wrote:you're indemocrattotheend wrote:My roommate just IMed me and said I got a big packet...not sure what color. I was supposed to go to an unofficial happy hour for admitted UVA students in DC, but now I kind of want to go home and see what this vomit-colored envelope actually looks like.

On reserve. Dated 2/16. Happy not to be rejected.
Time to crank out an essay, a LOCI, maybe a new LOR, tell them to hold me till July, and get that new LSAT score.....
So many options to delude myself with for a few months.

Re: Columbia 2010
I'm on reserve, got the letter today. Was expected with my numbers. 3.7/171.
I'm guessing that reserve is just a nice way of rejecting you, since 95% of reserves will probably be rejected anyway. But...it's still better than a straight-up rejection I guess.
