Just got my scholarship increased from $5k to $25k, bringing WashU pretty close to being competitive with the other schools I am considering. I have already talked to them a couple of times about financial aid and don't want to seem like I'm gunning for more money (even though I am gunning for more money). How do I make sure that this is their best offer without being that guy, because I'm pretty close to where I want to be but I know they increase tuition every year and I still don't want to go $25k out of pocket plus living expenses when I can be at places just as good for a lot less...?

It was increased in the last week, but I'd rather not say exactly when.

Was it last week, around 4:45PM CST? Because that's when most of us got ours. Don't worry, the adcomms do read this thread but seriously doubt you'll be outed by simply stating when you got it. It helps us know if you got it today, because that lets us know to maybe be expecting something.

What else do you have on the table?

I have $27k at Emory, $25k at Bama and basically a full ride at UF (my undergrad, where I would not mind at all staying) plus a lot from schools I'm not really considering. Want to either go to NYC/DC or stay in Southeast, so it would be annoying to go to WUSTL and then simply move back home to Florida if I'm not top 10-20% of the class if I could have just stayed somewhere like Emory or UF and probably had better job prospects in Florida/Georgia.

I find that a good general rule of life is not to say anything on the internet for which you would not want to be later credited.

It sounds like UF at full ride is not a terrible choice, nor Emory for the price. Emory I guess gives you some latitude to get out of the southwest. $25 at WUSTL seems competitive with those options though.

I don't think I've come across anything on these forums that would really be an issue for someone as (s)he were identified as the author.

Depends. Obviously anything that has to do with academics or employment has the possibility of being problematic. Likely? No. By far most of what we post is boring and meaningless to outsiders I imagine.

(Edit: what happens more often is peer social issues arising from everyone knowing who you are when grades and job topics come up. Not so much the authorities/employers. Just keep in mind that there are lots of lurkers and being that guy who brags about grades or a job has hurt people on here before, even at the chill sociable institution of WUSTL)

Consider this. There were about 10 of us planning on meeting up at April ASW from TLS. We talk about it here, as well as in other awesome secret places. Show up at the reception, we are all hanging out together while everyone else awkwardly walks around trying to meet people/get into our obv awesome group (which we were pretty closed off within ourselves, TBF). You're the adcomm, who would you suspect are the TLS people?

Plus, my lsn profile is linked here, which makes me fairly identifiable.
