In via VCE yesterday. The letter was postmarked 2/9, but delayed due to snow here in DC all last week. I am really excited, and was not expecting this so soon since I submitted my app in early January!scribelaw wrote:Anyone get an acceptance in the mail yesterday or today?

Congrats! Do you happen to know what date your application file went complete?

Thanks! Seems like 1/20 is still the latest complete date in last week's admits. Good to know that I shouldn't be worried by my lack of VCE yet.ariadne86 wrote:Just checked my inbox...got the complete email from them in the evening of 1/19.BenJ wrote:Congrats! Certainly wouldn't hurt provided the LOR is good.questions wrote:For those in the "held' group:

I don't know about the LOR -- I've read comments from adcomms (albeit not ones from CLS) that suggested additional LORs won't make too much of an impact on whether or not the student is eventually admitted and could potentially even be detrimental. I think this applied to waitlisted students though, they may think of holds in a different way.questions wrote:For those in the "held' group:

I could see this if the applicant really needs to fish for an extra LOR and gets one that is negative (or neutral), but if the applicant had a backup LOR for this exact reason, I think it would be fine.blue5385 wrote:I don't know about the LOR -- I've read comments from adcomms (albeit not ones from CLS) that suggested additional LORs won't make too much of an impact on whether or not the student is eventually admitted and could potentially even be detrimental. This suggests that only additional outstanding academic LORs would make an impact on your candidacy -- like crackberry said, whether or not you should send one seems to depend on the caliber of the letter.

Interesting. Is this really true:blue5385 wrote:http://blogs.law.yale.edu/blogs/admissi ... alker.aspx

6. Deferrals. We don't offer them. For anything. Punto. Again, we are trying to fill a spot for this fall. Even if you get offered a Rhodes or Marshall or some other amazing opportunity, your only choice is to turn down the other opportunity or withdraw and reapply. My advice to you, if you do get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will prevent you from enrolling this fall, is to take it -- you can always reapply, and your application will be richer for your experience. (If you do turn down a Rhodes or Marshall to stay on the wait list, please send an email to 203blog@yale.edu with your name, LSAC number, and "My answer to the quiz is (c)" in the subject line -- thanks!)
I KNOW there are people who defer admission to Yale. So they offer deferrals to outright admits but not to WL-->admits? Is that the message?

Yeah. They don't offer deferrals off the waitlist. I inquired based on that post when I was thinking of TFA.

Yeah I think that's true -- I know a person who was admitted outright last year but deferred for a Rhodes and they were fine with it.crackberry wrote:Interesting. Is this really true:blue5385 wrote:http://blogs.law.yale.edu/blogs/admissi ... alker.aspx

Just got a ding. No shock at all, I was probably an auto-reject even though it took them forever. No idea when the letter was dated because I'm in africa and I didnt bother asking when my dad told me.

Waitlisted.. when I saw the letter I was thinking it was going to be a ding, so I'm actually rather pleased. I'm curious however how often people actually get accepted off of the first reserve, and what type of numbers they usually have. I'm going to have to research that via LSN.

I'm wondering the same thing, what is a LOCI?

LOCI stands for Letter of Confirmed Interest. It is a letter you send to a school to indicate that you are still interested in enrolling.

Re: Columbia 2010
Letter Of Continued Interest. People often send them in response to waitlists or holds to demonstrate that they, well, continue to be interested. People sometimes also include additional LORs, updated resumes/transcripts, or something else relevant that might help paint you positively.mospina wrote:I'm wondering the same thing, what is a LOCI?
