Re: Maryland 2010
Hey everyone--I am new to this discussion board because I just got my acceptance letter on Saturday (I applied LATE!). I got an email saying that my financial aid package had been prepared, but I can't log onto SURFS to see it. How do you get on???

I checked the academic calendar posted on the MD website. Orientation is 1 or 2 days and starts on Aug 23.heywire555 wrote:Has there been any movement on the preferred waitlist!!??? Pls let me know! Did they have high offer acceptance rate!??

Re: Maryland 2010
I got accepted awhile back and just haven't gotten around to posting.
I have already signed a lease for a 4 person apartment in Fayette Square. I am completely new to Baltimore (moving from New Mexico - I know, what? haha) so I figured the convenience of Fayette Square completely warranted the extra money. I don't know the city at all, so I wanted to be be somewhere close to the school and also the free gym and wellness center down the street. Not to mention being close to the school means you are close to the sports stadiums!
You are indeed correct that orientation starts on the 23rd, but I haven't received anymore info on registering for classes, where to go the first day, etc. I am assuming that kind of stuff is coming after the second deposit deadline on June 1st.
As far as the danger in Baltimore, it is a big city, so there is bound to be violent crime. Just don't be an idiot and you will be fine. If you have ever visited the school you will see the area (Inner Harbor) is fine. I wouldn't go outside by myself at 2 AM in some parts of Baltimore, but that also goes for parts of NYC, LA, St. Louis, Dallas, Austin, Camden, Philly, and any other major city.
Did any of you happen to be at the admitted students reception in D.C. in early April?

Are the Welcome Nights going to be anything different from the Admitted Students day (which I didn't think was much...)?

First post of a longtime lurker, but wanted to share some good news for those on the Maryland waitlist:amclane wrote:AH this is what I have been waiting to hear. So jealous, hope i'm next!efs410 wrote:just got off waitlist for evening program. I do not think it was the preferred waitlist
I was offered a spot off of the preferred waitlist yesterday and given until 5pm today to accept. I declined, and hope it goes to a TLSer. Also, while speaking on the phone with Katrin Hussman (an admissions officer), she indicated they expect to move rapidly through the waitlist - hence the one business day decision period for waitlisters offered a spot. Good luck!

Re: Maryland 2010
I sent an e-mail LOCI and got a response saying it would be added to my file. I followed up with asking if I could know my status on the waitlist and got this response:
"You are still on the waitlist, we have very few seats left this year."
Is that bad news?

Re: Maryland 2010
Just wondering when everyone is arriving? I am taking a late visit on the 16th & 17th. Any suggestions on good bars/restaurants. I am moving out the 8th, would love to meet up with some fellow class mates before classes start.

Brewer's Art in Mount Vernon is good. Good food, great microbrews. Have a few Resurrection Ales, they're pretty strong. Iggie's has great pizza, and City Cafe has some good food since they have new chef now.oklahomabreakdown wrote:Any suggestions on good bars/restaurants.
I usually don't venture over to Canton or Fell's Point. Maybe others may have some suggestions for those areas.

Congrats! You are so lucky! I've been hoping and praying to get that call for months
Do you mind telling me if you sent any LOCI's and how many? Did you have any unique strategy to get in?

Re: Maryland 2010
@starrynight I sent in one LOCI and one additional letter of recommendation. I was also able to go visit in person, which I think helped my case. I hope that you get in too! Best of luck! I am admitted to the part-time evening program, by the way.

Re: Maryland 2010
Thanks, I hope I get in too! I'm also trying to get into the part time evening program. So you gave me hope. When you went in for the visit, did you schedule the apt? Or did you go to drop of your LOCI or additional letter of rec and get the chance to talk to an admissions counselor?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
