Supposedly, Irvine had a 68% yield last year. With a 60 student class,

60 students / .68 = 88 students admitted

If we assume the yield is similar this year, then

80 students / .68 = 118 students admitted

Of course, indications point to this year being less attractive than last, due to the reduced scholarship offering. Of course, they've had a chance to make a splash and get their name out. Time will tell, I guess.

If they think the yield will drop to 50%, then

80 students / .50 = 160 students

i think it was 4% last year... the lowest of any law schools in the US

Think at the margin! They only need to admit one person - you! You don't need them to admit everyone

You are thinking of their acceptance or selectivity rate.

Selectivity = # of Applicants Accepted / # of Applicants Applied

Yield = # of Matriculants / # of Applicants Accepted

Schools what a low number for selectivity and a high number for yield.

I'm a reverse splitter (PM me for actual stats) from a CSU with some unique work/volunteer experience. Was told that more information (ie. scholarship stuff) will come via snail mail. Still sorta in shock actually.

SOO excited to get the "welcome to UC Irvine" phone call, and the message from Dean Chemerinsky. Plus, if the rest of the class is half as awesome as you guys are, that totally sells it!

For those already in, who's going to ASD? (it seems so random on a Thursday - is there anything happening on Friday the 2nd too?)

And for any UC Irvine 1Ls out there, where do most of your class live? On campus, nearby, etc?

There are a few commuters and a few people living in private apartments nearby, but most of us live on campus. Campus housing is pretty much directly across the street from the law school, which is really convenient. Plus, campus housing is definitely the best bang for your buck.

How did those admitted get info on ASD?? I didn't get a call, but I got a small white envelope in the mail appx 2 weeks ago with 1 sheet of paper congratulating me. I have not rcv'd anything to follow-up?

When she called me, Dean Ortiz gave me the April 1 date, and the paper letter mentioned it as well (unless my memory is bad). I haven't gotten anything since then.

Anyone check out UCI's twitter? There are a lot of interesting articles/current events on there. Makes me want Irvine even more

This is a little off topic, but I have been thinking about studying a foreign language while in law school. Anyone have any information on this generally or specifically about UCI? Is it complicated to register and take foreign language courses on the quarter system while taking semester law courses? I figure if I go to school in so cal and plan to stay there after we're done then brushing up on my rusty spanish could be useful.
Any thoughts?
