Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
158, 3.26, waitlisted yesterday. Will likely be withdrawing soon. I am already in at Pitt which I wanted above PSU and am currently negotiating scholarships with them. As far as I am concerned Piutt is better than PSU so I was mildly surprised. With that said, waiting until they START reviewing the waitlist in late MArch early APril isn't going to work for me since most schools need seat deposits in by mid APril. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
Penn State was the first school that accepted me, but their scholarship offer of 10k per left alot to be desired. It looks like i wont be spending the next three years in Happy Valley. Ill most likely be withdrawing soon. Hopefully this helps out someone on the waitlist.

For those who received a scholarship, how long between the acceptance and information on scholarship award?

The acceptance email mentioned a date that packets were going to be sent out. I received that packet about a 5-6 days later. hth

I received my scholarship info with my acceptance packet. It was not in the front though. It took me about 2 weeks to receive my packet after being accepted via emailtraehekat wrote:For those who received a scholarship, how long between the acceptance and information on scholarship award?

Got my acceptance packet with scholarship info today.
I have to say, I was a little disappointed. $10K a year.

I have a feeling that the later you apply in the cycle, the harder it is to get good money. We have almost identical numbers and received 5K less than I did. They are probably worried that too many people will accept scholly offers, so they had to offer less

I applied late in the cycle and got 20k a year. They made a decision on me in a week though so I guess that they wanted me even though my numbers aren't that awesome.keemos wrote:kalvano wrote:Got my acceptance packet with scholarship info today.

Penn State also offered me less money than they offered other applicants with equal/lower numbers than mine. I guess they're being sort of holistic, at least when it comes to merit aid.

Received my acceptance folder today with $60,000 scholarship. Pretty much what I expected, so no complaints here about the money.

You're actually a good example of what I mean- your LSAT is slightly lower than mine, your GPA is slightly higher, and you were offered twice as much money. They must just like you more... Anyway, congratulations!traehekat wrote:Received my acceptance folder today with $60,000 scholarship. Pretty much what I expected, so no complaints here about the money.

Thanks! Yeah I'm not really sure what determines the amount of money offered, I have always assumed it is pretty much just the numbers. I'll be honest I don't know what else about my application would have stood out, I think my softs are fairly average, especially by TLS standards.Burger in a can wrote:You're actually a good example of what I mean- your LSAT is slightly lower than mine, your GPA is slightly higher, and you were offered twice as much money. Is anyone going to the open house on March 20th at UP? I was just wondering what to expect.

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
Hey guys,
I was wondering if my preference for the campus in University Park instead of Carlisle would have any positive or negative impact on whether I'm admitted. Anyone know?
Also, is anyone familiar with the part time program and what the requirements are to change from part time to full time?
Thanks

I only applied here because I got a fee waiver...even though my LSAT score is way below than what they usually admit. My app's been complete since Jan. 8th, but it's encouraging that some people got waitlists with similar stats as mine.

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
Checked out the school and met with the assistant dean of admissions Mr. R. Jay Shivley. Dean Shivley was very nice and welcoming and he laid out the goals for Penn State. I was glad to hear that as a mission statement they want to become a tier 1 school with in the next 5-10 years and are going to be doing the investments to do so. (paraphrasing).jlnoa0915 wrote:Visiting the campus (UP) tomorrow, will let you all know what I think when I get back.
As far as the new building goes, students all have individual lockers and all of the classrooms are very tech. advanced and the video conferencing is interesting and effective. Dean Shively also told me that they would be implementing video conferencing for 'OCI' due to the school's location which will help increase the number of firms that draw from there. The courtroom is amazing and probably as advanced as you can get. The library is also quite impressive. It has great views of the surrounding area to help relax you while studying and they have blinds that come down if it gets too bright in the building. It had a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.
I was also able to sit in on a constitutional law class. The students were engaging and intelligent as well as friendly. The class was taught in a semi Socratic manner with open discussions and debates that I personally would enjoy as a student there but thats just me.
Now for the 'bad', which are more subjective to me personally. The cafe has hours from 8-2:30pm and as one who will be studying late at the school it would be nice if they offered extended hours. I was also disappointed that there were not more centralized student centers; felt that as its a new building it could have had some more ergonomic planning. Overall the PROS outweigh the CONS in my opinion.
Edit: Also regarding the surrounding area, Penn State is a city unto itself. They have local bars, restaurant, and stores; also the sports complex is impressive. There seems to be a decent Greek life if thats your thing. COL also seemed to be reasonable. Outside of University Park there isn't much though, but that goes without saying.
Any other questions PM me.

What is the printing situation on campus? Is there a charge per page, like $.10? Or is it one of the lucky schools that is free printing? Does anyone know?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
