Yes, I only saw very few splitters. I'm just holding onto hope that LSAC calculator says I have a 60% chance of getting in, which is higher than Duke and Cornell where I've already been accepted. From my research I haven't seen them giving out decisions before December before, so it might be some new strategies that they're implementing. We'll just have to wait.unrelated wrote:Thelaw23 wrote:I'm worried, too. There seems to be some splitters that got in yesterday.Keilz wrote:Good morning everyone. I'm a splitter with a gpa>25th and lsat>75th. I applied 9/20 so this does suck.
Hey! Me too! Also UR1 since 9/16... objectively speaking I think there's zero need to worry. Nevertheless... why don't they want me:(

This might be a bit tangential, and is probably answered elsewhere, but what are the merits of the LSAC calculator vs. mylsn? If one holds more merit than the other, why do we not exclusively use that tool? It would seem that the LSAC calculator would be a better tool, given that they are working with the entire population of applicants instead of a biased sample.Keilz wrote:Yes, I only saw very few splitters. LSAC calculator shows about 84% for NYU for me, but I know things can be erratic for splitters.Keilz wrote:Yes, I only saw very few splitters. I was actually WL at Duke and UVA although LSAC calculator showed a 56% chance for Duke so I don't even know anymore... No why essays, though.

Personally for me, mslsn has way too small of a sample size for me to find anything useful or somewhat definitive. Perhaps the LSAC calculator is accurate because it knows the school's index formula? I don't know, when you're desperate, you cling on to anything for hope lol88234 wrote:This might be a bit tangential, and is probably answered elsewhere, but what are the merits of the LSAC calculator vs. mylsn? I didn't write a Why Duke, but I am going to write a Why UVA because I know they are gung-ho about it. I wrote an essay for NYU explaining that it was my first choice and what I'm interested in.

I made a typo, my GPA is just a bit under NYU's 25th.Keilz wrote:I think you have a high chance because you're not actually a splitter! Yeah, definitely write the Why essays! I think I really messed up by not writing them this cycle.
And I think since you wrote one for NYU you're in a good place

I kind of wish they did interviews, though.

Re: NYU c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I could be totally wrong, but mylsn's percentages are based on self-reported data whereas the LSAC calculator is based on an algorithm involving LSAT and GPA percentiles and statistics, things like that (I think?). So the former should give you an idea of what you might expect based on similar applicants' past experiences, whereas the latter is more of a statistical probability.88234 wrote: This might be a bit tangential, and is probably answered elsewhere, but what are the merits of the LSAC calculator vs. mylsn? Personally I don't use the LSAC calculator, and I find mylsn useful in broad terms (taking sample size and selection bias with grains of salt) and also for looking at individual applicants' cycles.

Re: NYU c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
If I remember right LSAC goes off of admissions formulas whereas mylsn doesn't. This makes mylsn more accurate because it really accounts for school median. Also there is no URM option for LSAC.
I think I've read this on TLS before but correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes on law school numbers (not mylsn) I definitely look at individual cycles and it is often the case when someone gets rejected at relatively high numbers, they overall have a weak cycle, which suggests something was up with the application. Or the same for people outperforming their numbers.forum_user wrote:I could be totally wrong, but mylsn's percentages are based on self-reported data whereas the LSAC calculator is based on an algorithm involving LSAT and GPA percentiles and statistics, things like that (I think?). For anyone that cares, I reached out to NYU today and got this answer. Expected.airwrecka wrote:Oh I see in order to see that Notice you have to click on "Students Click Here" or whatever. Entering first year JD students applying for NYU Law institutional scholarships (need-based and merit-based) are required to submit financial information using the Need Access application. To apply online, visit Access Group's Web site. If you have questions about completing or submitting the application, you are encouraged to contact Access Group at (800) 334-0540, (302) 447-4000, or NeedAccess@accessgroup.org.
Important Notices:
Need Access applications are no longer being accepted. Need Access will not offer a 2017-2018 academic year application. We suggest that you check your school’s website or contact the school’s financial aid office to learn whether your school will require an alternate application, and when it will be available.
Dear XYZ,
Thank you for your email and congratulations on your admission to NYU Law School!
The Law School will no longer be using the Need Access financial aid application (the information you found on the Admitted Students website is currently being updated to reflect this change). In early January, admitted students will receive instructions from our office on how to complete NYU Law School's online financial aid application.
In the meantime, please let us know if we can be of any additional service to you.
Sincerest regards,
Joel

thanks for the update on the financial aid stuff! I also got a call bright and early this morning
the person who called me (don't want to name names) seemed weirdly robotic...anyone else get that impression? everything was weirdly enunciated and sounded extremely scripted
