I was really expecting to be turned down, but got accepted. I was barely above 25th GPA w/ a 168 LSAT (still below 75th) and OOS as well. Given the trends, I thought I didn't have much chance.Navyhornguy wrote:

Again, I think that LSAT is their focus this year for whatever reason. I'm glad that it worked out for you though! I'm hoping to get off of the waitlist. UT is still my top choice.hammocklv06 wrote:I was really expecting to be turned down, but got accepted. I was barely above 25th GPA w/ a 168 LSAT (still below 75th) and OOS as well. I sent in an unsolicited "why texas" a couple days after I submitted my app (I'm oos). Then last Friday I got an email inviting me to interview since I'm out of state... Not sure on the protocol but it didn't seem to make a difference in my case.calilaw33 wrote:Whats the protocol for sending an unsolicited "Why Texas"? Has anyone done this, or is it better to wait until they ask, if they ask? Thanks.

Hi,
Is anyone applying for the the Equal Justice Scholarship and/or the G. Rollie White Public Service Scholarship? I'm applying for both and was hoping someone might be able to provide tips/suggestions for the essay or knew where I could get some help on this. I've already looked at the website carefully, but would appreciate additional thoughts/advice or any inside knowledge of what they look for more specifically in a candidate.

If you don't get any UT specific advice it might be worth reading about some other prominent public interest scholarships like the RTK (Root-Tilden-Kern) at NYU. I'm sure there's threads about that on TLS.Loney M. Setnick wrote:Hi,

Remember I am from last cycle, but I sent an unsolicited "Why Texas" and was admitted 2 days later... I think it shows interest and can't really hurt you.rychellemarie wrote:I sent in an unsolicited "why texas" a couple days after I submitted my app (I'm oos). Just got an email comforting me on my lack of Texas citizenship and asking if I would like to write a hardship essay about how it traumatized me. Anyone have advice/thoughts about that?

Have you done it yet? This seems to be a fairly new thing. I know they've done a very limited number for 1L admission in the past but I get the impression they were reserved for very special borderline cases.rychellemarie wrote:OOS applicant, submitted mid-December and preemptively emailed a "why texas" a couple days later-- got an email requesting an interview this morning... Wondering if I should've waited on the why texas. Anyone interviewed with ut? This will be my first and I'm feeling the nerves!
And in the last two transfer cycles they've been doing them fairly regularly, they are generally quite informal, and they almost always admit the person shortly thereafter. The transfer interviews seem to be more about making sure the person has a pulse and is not a psycho than anything else.
I'm sure many here will be eager to hear the outcome.

Well here's to hoping mine is equally informal and leads to admission as well!! I haven't done it yet... I was emailed about it Thursday and the email requested a response via phone or email within two weeks. I called Friday as soon as I got off work but it was after 5pm so I'm assuming the office was closed and I left a VM and followed up with a quick email. I haven't received a response back yet. I'm hoping to hear something back today otherwise I thought I'd try calling again tomorrow. Do you think that's too soon to call again or should I give them more time to get back to me? I'm anxious to get it done! I'll definitely give an update here after the interview!

Waitlisted... I'm a Texas resident. Didn't expect this at all.

Re: University of Texas c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I'm just under both medians. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, but I've known Texas residents who've gotten in with much lower scores than mine. I'm planning on riding it out because UT was definitely a top choice, I don't really know what to expect from the waitlist though and don't think I can wait until April or later to make a decision since $$ is a huge factordoobleykah wrote:numbers?cphtexas wrote:Waitlisted... Received an email last night. It'll be an in person interview with a Texas alum in my area (Southern CA). I'm waiting to hear from the alum to set it up, I'll report back after!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
