Im a total mess and my life has completely fallen apart. I'm overworked and underpaid and barely getting by financially, and on top of that I'm taking more hours than I ever have before, leading a student organization, volunteering by teaching a class for free, and working 10hr shifts every day I'm not in class, oh and I just started mock trial (which is an absolute crapfest of a world load, now I understand why no one wants to go to trial).

But I digress. I knew from the get-go becoming a lawyer would be the greatest challenge in my life and right now I don't have the luxury of breaking down!

This is so weird to me. People are weird.

Just a PSA that the user "Li'l Sebastian" won't be joining us in this thread anymore because he's actually a dude......

I would like to formally apologize to everyone for misrepresenting my sex.

I wanted to be a part of what I saw as one of the strongest groups of people in the legal profession. When the deck is stacked against you that's when the strongest rise. I have nothing but the highest level of respect for women breaking into the legal profession because of how long the deck has been stacked to keep women out. My actions in representing my sex were misguided but they stemmed from a desire to be apart of something great. After all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Every single one of you is an inspiration to young girls out there all over the world.

I know I shouldn't have led people to believe i was someone who I wasn't and I'm sorry.

Are we here to unite women or exclude men?

The former, of course! A man participating in the thread is one thing, and I don't have any major problems with that. But I know that I'm not alone in thinking than a man (who identifies as such) pretending to be a woman in order to participate in the thread as if he were one is incredibly creepy and violating. Not to mention that one of his reasons for doing so was to appear "more motivating to others [women]," which I personally found very patronizing.

He's apologized sincerely and admitted that intentionally misrepresenting his gender to us was wrong so there's certainly no need for anyone to attack him, but I really don't think it's appropriate for him to participate in the thread. Obviously, I'm not going to stop him if he chooses to. But based on the conversation I have had with him over PM, I think he agrees with me.

I keep tearing up whenever I hear Jessica Mendoza as an analyst during MLB games.
She was great! All the Twitter backlash kind of surprised me (well not really) because she was spot on.

Yep, thought she did a great job, too! Didn't realize there was Twitter backlash :(
Twitter backlash? What did the public not like about her? :(
It was mainly a bunch of MRM sounding dudes making stuff up. One was a radio sports guy (from Atlanta, I think?). He either got suspended or lost his job over it. A lot of the criticism was stupid: "She's a stupid woman saying obvious stuff like 'well, he didn't need to strike out there' - no shit" I'm wondering if they actually listen to some of the stuff the male sportscasters talk about? Honestly, it's a difficult job to talk for three hours about anything without saying something that hasn't been said before. She knows her stuff. I thought she was wonderful.

The point of this thread was to create a safe space for women to talk about issues we face in the law school process and being in a male dominated profession. I DO take issue with men participating in this thread because the reason we had to make this space was because men would attack us for voicing our concerns about gender equality. I don't know if you were around at the beginning when we had no ladies thread, but any time we tried to talk about women's issues in the school specific threads the men were unable to handle it.

I appreciate Lil Sebastian's apology and feel no need to attack him. But this thread is ONLY for female identifying applicants. And I make no apology for that.
It does not seem very kind to declare ONLY female identifying applicants welcome... I know there is an LGBTQ thread but trans ppl should really feel welcome here if female bodied but not female identified. Also my personal opinion is that pretending to be a woman is lame and sexism done with good intentions is still sexism but men shouldn't feel as if they can't pop in to share something or ask a question or some such business. In the end every space is a male space, so carving out our own female space is super important, but it doesn't need to be at the expense and full exclusion of others.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
