Dear Members of the Class of 2018:
Earlier today, you received the below email with an incorrect date. The correct date for the first day of Orientation is Wednesday, August 19 (reflected below in bold and underlined). We apologize for any confusion the first email may have caused and look forward to welcoming you next month.

Dear Members of the Class of 2018:
Congratulations on your acceptance to Fordham Law School. We are delighted that you are joining us. All of us in the Office of Student Affairs look forward to welcoming you on Wednesday, August 19, at 9:00 a.m., the first day of Orientation, and working with you throughout your law school career.
Orientation, which is mandatory, will continue through Friday, August 28, with opportunities to get to know your classmates, the Law School, and New York City. Your classes will begin on Monday, August 25, with Legal Process and Quantitative Methods for Lawyers. All information about Orientation, as well as the Legal Process and Quantitative Methods for Lawyers course, which begins on Monday, August 25, will be posted on the Admitted J.D. Students page.
The First Year Students section, which is on the left side of the page, contains information about the University’s immunization requirements, student health insurance, how to submit a final transcript from every institution of higher education from which you have received a degree, instructions on submitting your 2015 registration form, and other important items. Under Campus Resources you will find information about on-campus housing, how lockers are assigned at the Law School, as well as information on food and cafeteria services at the Lincoln Center campus. In addition, please take the time to read the Law School’s Code of Academic Responsibility and Academic Regulations. A link to these important documents is located in the body of the Welcome letter on the website.
We would like to point out a few items that you should prioritize.
Please complete and submit this questionnaire, which will assist us in completing our plans for Orientation.
On the left side of the Admitted J.D. Students website, under First Year Students, you will find a heading titled ID Photos. This section provides instructions on how to upload your picture to your my.fordham.edu student account. If you have not already done so, please upload your picture immediately so that you can receive your Fordham University identification card on the first day of Orientation. Please note that these photos will also be submitted to the appropriate authorities in the State in which you will be licensed as an attorney.
It is important that the Admissions Office receive an official final undergraduate transcript and, if applicable, any official graduate transcripts. These transcripts must be mailed directly from the issuing institution and indicate the dates the bachelor’s degree and any graduate degree(s) were conferred. Information about the due dates for these transcripts and the office to which they are to be mailed is available on the Admitted J.D Students website, under Official Final Transcript.
As mentioned earlier, beginning on August 25, your classes will begin with a course titled Legal Process and Quantitative Methods (QM) for Lawyers. The faculty for this course will provide you with the substantive training you will need as you begin your first-year classes. This training includes four components—Legal Process, Legal Practice, Legal Writing, and Quantitative Methods—that together comprise a one-credit pass-fail course.
For Legal Process, Legal Practice, and Legal Writing, you will need to purchase and read the book Whose Monet?: An Introduction to the American Legal System [ISBN# 9780735565579]. You also have the option of purchasing the Bouvier Law Dictionary, Compact Edition and Whose Monet?: An Introduction to the American Legal System as a bundled package directly from Wolters Kluwer Publishing Company. Their website is
www.wklegaledu.com. In the search engine enter ISBN #9781454869429 to be directed to the bundle package information.
Please be sure to read Whose Monet in its entirety prior to your first Legal Process and QM class meeting. In addition to reading the whole book so that you understand the story for your first Legal Process class, please pay particular attention to the case of DeWeerth v. Baldinger, which begins on page 74. Supplemental materials for Legal Practice and the readings for QM course will be posted on the Admitted Students website in August.
During the week of August 10, first-year section assignments will be posted to your my.fordham.edu account. Information on how to access your first year course schedule is available on the Admitted J.D. Students website. Your remaining fall semester courses will begin on Monday, August 31. If the professors for these courses have assigned readings for the first day of class, these assignments will be posted on the Registrar’s page the week of August 25. To locate this information, on the main page of the First Year Students open the Fall 2015 Courses tab and then click on to the link to the Registrar’s webpage. On the left side of the page, click on Course Syllabi & First Assignments. You will need your Access IT password to retrieve your course information on LawNet. The user name and password for this site is the same as the one you use when you log on to my.fordham.edu.
Please note that some professors prefer to use TWEN or Blackboard to post information for the courses they teach. If your professor’s syllabus is not on LawNet, please check the TWEN or Blackboard sites. You will receive instructions about these sites during Orientation.
Although readings for your substantive courses may be posted, we strongly recommend that you wait until the second day of your Legal Process and QM course to purchase your textbooks. You should check the Registrar’s website periodically as professors may update their postings.
Enjoy the rest of the summer. All of us in the Office of Student Affairs look forward to meeting you soon.
Sincerely,
