While the above is overly optimistic, you should indeed retake & work for another year. If you are unwilling, go to either Georgetown or Northwestern, but know that (1) you could've gotten in at a school with better employment outcomes and/or (2) saved a lot of money at the schools you've been admitted to now with just a few more points on the LSAT.Brady199 wrote:Same. Hi,
I'm an international student, graduated from Oxbridge (2014). Have had a year of solid WE since.
LSAT: 167
UG : Average (On the scale of Supeiror to below average; will attach an addendum, my mother was diagnosed and succumbed to an illness during the last 14 months of my 3 year degree).
Currently looking at Georgetown, Northwestern, Boston College and Fordham.
Open to any advice. Look forward to hearing what you guys think

Hi JawsJawsJaws, congratulations you really seem to have cleaned up!
My family live in India, as someone else mentioned, there are only a handful of law schools that are accepted by the Indain Bar. UPenn, Berkeley & Cornell are the best ones, other than those I'm targetting. Honestly don't believe I stand a chance at UPenn or Berkeley, even with a 170-172. And between Cornell and Georgetown, Georgetown would be my choice. Hence just trying to understand my chances within my targetted 4 schools
The worry for me is the average on my UG degree, as if I have to retake the LSAT I would require to take sabbatical, which is sort of frowned upon where I work.

My real concern is the Average wrt my UG degree.

Ah I see - you haven't applied yet; I was under the impression you were trying to decide where to go! Well, your LSAT score is above median at both Northwestern and Georgetown, so that's definitely good; as far as I can tell though, nobody here has applied with an 'average' UG evaluation, so honestly it's hard to say how that is going to affect your chances of admission. You do have a good explanation of how your grades got to be what they are, and attended a very selective institution, so between that, my guess is that you'll be admitted to at least one if not both of these schools, but don't count on much of a scholarship.kotak1 wrote:Hi Brady & Hands, as I've mentioned earlier in response to JawsJawsJaws

I am also from India and a soon to be graduate from Mumbai University (LLB). I got a 172, Superior but only part time work exp and got some great offers from bottom T-14 schools. Attending Duke with $$$.
Point is that 167 to 172+ isn't that hard of a jump. The LSAT is about 55-65% of the deal + Softs + Interview skills (More or less a culture + language test). With your Oxbridge background and WE (Which I am sure is great) don't squander your chances for big money at a top school just by settling on your LSAT score. The LSAT js a learnable test. 4-5 points either way can make a world of a difference to your application and your future.

Does anyone know whether international students can do an internship off campus during the academic year (summer excluded)?

For the first academic year you can only work on campus, up to 20 hours a week. From the second year off campus is allowed too and the 20 hour cap remains.Veronica2015 wrote:Does anyone know whether international students can do an internship off campus during the academic year (summer excluded)?

I heard that we can only work off campus through CPT when school is in session. Anyone could help (dis)confirm this?

After looking at the curriculum and listening to experiences of current law students, I don't think there is any time to have a substantial part time job.
It won't matter because employers focus mainly on grades followed by clinic performance and summer internships.

Right. Part-time interns do not help job hunting, but I would like the chance to try different fields. Currently no clues about what law I want to practice.jawsjawsjaws wrote:ExactlyBrady199 wrote:After looking at the curriculum and listening to experiences of current law students, I don't think there is any time to have a substantial part time job.

Re: International Applicants 2014-15
So with my stats I got rejected from gulc, michigan, chicago and uva, held at northwestern and wl'ed at cls, nyu and duke. It's just so confusing and i doubt if there was any international student who got the same outcome as mine.
Anyway, I'm still waiting to get off the list [while preparing to retake. hope that bumps up my 168 to 170-ish.

That's really a shocker. Those stats deserve atleast $$. Sorry mate. Maybe there was an issue with the essays, academics or work exp.
so I am sure it can be resolved for the coming cycle.

Thanks dude! Now I'm gonna stay on those wls and see how things go for me... I guess the main factor is that I applied around early Feb. That might have been a deal breaker. You know, the AO of gulc had a extremely long interview (around 30min) where the officer seems very eager to share with me his thoughts on what gulc can provide for me and he spoke at least half of those 30 min. Then I got rejected outright. This is just bizarre.Brady199 wrote:That's really a shocker. Those stats deserve atleast $$. Sorry mate. Maybe there was an issue with the essays, academics or work exp.

That totally explains it then. The recruiting and decisions are fiercest between October and January. After that there is a ton of focus on scholarships for those who are already admitted. I hope you bump up your score by 4-5 points and improve other aspects of your application as well.
Here's to a kickass cycle for you for Fall 16! Best wishes.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. With roughly the same application materials I got wl'ed from higher ranked schools, so maybe that's not the deal breaker.Brady199 wrote:That totally explains it then. I'll try to get off the wl this cycle though (with microscopic hope) and take 3 months to bump up the score. Thank you mate.

If I start my visa process with school A, but subsequently get off the WL from school B, what happens?
I mean, some schools notify you that you got accepted just a few days before school.
