Does anyone know if the Law Center's drop in rank will have a dramatic impact on its graduate's job prospects in the Houston area?

IMO, no. A change from 48 to 58 will not change job prospects. UH will still dominate the Houston market. Historically, UH has been in the 50s to begin with.

Unless you don't really want to attend, I'd definitely pay it. I think they'll definitely be using the WL this year.

Where do I find literature on the seat deposits? Such as Cody and deadlines. If a letter has this info, it may be cutting close to the 15th.

Besides the fact I have to decide if it's reasonable to wait to make a huge decision like that, so close to the start of school.

You should receive a letter reiterating your position on the wait list sometime this month. If you decide to wait it out, you should send a LOCI via email by the end of this month. From past threads, they tend to look at the wait list in May-ish. The waitlist is not ranked. All waitlisted candidates will go through committee for a second full file review for any open seats.

I heard (WL) just after that date two cycles ago, and then got in off the list just after May 1 FWIW. They didn't offer me money until after I withdrew though.

It was not a spectacular figure.

ETA: Also, I kind of suspect that they just didn't have time to finish their pending apps so they just WLed everybody who was still under review to buy themselves more time. I was already in with $$ at SMU. My numbers weren't really good enough for them to YP me, but they were definitely good enough (and with my Tx ties) to assure admittance.

3L at UH here who successfully negotiated a $7.5k scholarship back in 2011. I waited to contact UH about scholarships until after I had obtained scholarship offers from Baylor and SMU.

First, I got into schools in the 70s and got them to fork over $20k plus, then I used that to leverage Baylor and SMU (who are traditionally more scholarship friendly than UH). Once I had some offers from Baylor and SMU, I took those to UH and UH made a $7.5k offer, which I took. Just a heads up on what worked for me.

Other than that, I can say that I have really enjoyed my time at UH. I'd say that the majority of folks have something lined up for after graduation, which is something that a lot of schools in our ranking can't say. Those who don't have something lined up yet are actively hunting, and if this year is like last year, they will find something within 9 mo of graduation.

I actually didn't even think to reply, because I assumed people would have, you know, a sense of humor and not lose their s***, but apparently I forgot I'm on a forum full of neurotic law students.

I don't know, nor do I care, whether you're going to attend University of Houston, but if you want to succeed wherever you go, you'd do best to drop the inferiority complex. It's a very good school in Texas for reasons I don't have to list. I don't have anything against UH ...ehh, actually I do, but it has nothing to do with rank or job prospects seeing as I too, like everyone here, seriously considered UH. Hell, I even applied without a fee waiver.

If it makes you feel any better, my lack of respect for UH Law has nothing to do with their relative rank to UTexas or any other school for that matter.

Will be withdrawing my offer tomorrow. Got in last month but I'm gambling on a higher ranked school. UH is a great school (energy and health law) with faculty that cares but it just doesn't offer the portability I want in my law degree. Good luck to all attending this Fall

Bro I'm in at UH and I would have NEVER thought "Hey why don't I go into the STCL thread and look for an opportunity to take a shit on it!?" Maybe you're right and that would have been hilarious...but I think it seems kind of like a pointless dick move. And that's all I'm saying. I have no interest in being in some forum war and there's no inferiority complex. You're in at UT, that's great. I'm on the WL there and I hope to get in but if not that's okay too
