Re: UF C/O 2017 (2013-2014 APPLICANTS)
Hey I don't know where else to post this, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place, but is anyone going to the admitted students day on 4/11? I'm trying to decide if I should stay that night (do people go out after?), or just drive home (Jax). Also, has anyone had any luck getting travel stipends...I'd definitely stay if my hotel were free.

Oh, I know I'm just saying that it is representative of hiring for the rest of private firms, especially those outside of the Panhandle and Alachua County. Edit: Also, it was easier to do a cursory search at firms with many attorneys and a sort-by-school function.pat4redick wrote:Know that in order to work at the bolded, you need to be at least top 10% in your class (likely w/ LR or Moot Court)... something that you shouldn't count on. You may get a screener interview with lower numbers but the people who get the jobs are in that 10% area.nebula666 wrote:I still think FSU is better for government but not for private practice.
# of grads from each school
Greenberg Traurig - 20 FSU / 60 UF
Akerman - 31 FSU / 94 UF
Holland & Knight - 24 FSU / 100 UF
Blizin Sumberg - 2 FSU / 33 UF
The rest of the largest 10 in FL I checked don't let you sort by law school. Search any firm you would want to work at and compare. I haven't really found any decent sized firms with a significantly higher FSU presence, unless it is in Tallahassee or the Panhandle.
Note: Akerman didn't even interview here this past OCI.

Right, and this seems to be the accepted train of thought. I'm a FL resident and can agree with this.Kanye West wrote:It's about the Alumni base. In FL, from my experience, UF's is larger and more loyal. It's the ability to check the alumni DB that gets you in the back door of a decent job, or to get advice from an insider of a firm you're looking to work at.phireblast wrote:Is prestige something that really matters? Neither school is Harvard, let's face it. Just because some UF alumni says UF is more prestigious, what does that exactly mean? That a lesser qualified candidate for a job from UF gains preference over a more qualified candidate from FSU just because of some unwritten prestige factor? I do understand that having an alumni network definitely without question does help you in finding a job, and in that case, of course having gone to the same educational institution would give you that connection.
But I don't really envision a scenario where an employer would ignore how you perform during an interview and the material experiences on your resume just because someone went to a more "prestigious" school.
I ask this because at this point... my decision to choose between UF and FSU is being complicated by these potentially irrelevant factors. At this point, I'm really thinking this argument doesn't really matter. If prestige was such a great factor, I'd expect there to be more UF grads finding long term, bar passage required jobs, ESPECIALLY because there are more of them graduating.
But it's not the case. According to LST, the FSU class of 2012 actually placed more graduates in long term, full time, bar passage required jobs than UF did. Say what? That is NOT to say that LST is perfect. They rely on the information made available, which isn't 100% and complete, but it's one of our best resources.
Also, anyone receive scholarship information recently?
UF also has a much larger class, if I'm not mistaken, so that might account for the slight difference in numbers in LST. Even with the higher rank, and better LST #'s, I'd go to UF because frankly, if I wanted a job in FL, the UF alumni base is larger, stronger, and more active. Odd metric to consider, but it's one I've encountered over basically two decades.
But the numbers aren't adding up. If UF has MORE students and a LARGER and more loyal alumni base... then how the heck did FSU place MORE students in JD required long term full-time jobs than UF?
This is reminding me of the paradox questions on the LSAT

I'll be withdrawing my app from UF if all goes will at an ASW I'm planning on attending this weekend. Hopefully one of you guys gets the scholarship I was offered (if that's how it works...)

Anyone think we will see movement today? I've been in comparative review this whole week.

Yea I put mine in after Oct. Should have retaken (152) but Engineering doesn't really give you time to sit around and study for it very much. :/rdelaney wrote:That's rough. I just put my app in after the Feb LSAT. I hEard back from FSU within a week. Waiting on UF now to make some decisions.

As the cycle moves on, UF has been less appealing to me. Especially since they never got back to me about scholly. Maybe withdraw app soon and go to Emory

I was admitted last week. My admission letter came in the mail (large envelope). I received my scholarship info this week (large envelope). I applied early Feb, so the entire process took about one month for me.

I agree. No scholarship makes UF an absolute no go.itachiuchiha wrote:As the cycle moves on, UF has been less appealing to me. Especially since they never got back to me about scholly. Maybe withdraw app soon and go to Emory

What are your numbers? Still haven't gotten scholarship info and I'm above both 75ths. Just got a sizable scholarship from Emory too...thinking I'll just go there.plsg wrote:I was admitted last week. Hmph. No movement today. I'd really like to know what these adcomms do while they work. Maybe next week.

They're planning outreach programs (like admitted students day, law preview etc.), reviewing your disclosures and following up on them, answering questions from OLs, wasting time answering phone calls from 0Ls and saying that they won't give out admissions decisions over the phone, reading essays that people didn't even bother to half-ass, scheduling tours, giving tours...rdelaney wrote:Hmph. I think you're confusing adcomm with secretary or 3L on some of these, but I agree with the spirit of your post. Adcomms do a lot more than look at applications.LSATmakesMeNeurotic wrote:They're planning outreach programs (like admitted students day, law preview etc.), reviewing your disclosures and following up on them, answering questions from OLs, wasting time answering phone calls from 0Ls and saying that they won't give out admissions decisions over the phone, reading essays that people didn't even bother to half-ass, scheduling tours, giving tours...rdelaney wrote:Hmph. Yeah, I do get that. It's just, I feel like they are taking their time when the main competition (FSU) cranks out decisions and has two ASDs.Nucky wrote:I think you're confusing adcomm with secretary or 3L on some of these, but I agree with the spirit of your post. Fair enough, but many of us have been admitted for a while with no scholarship info. So unless youre prepared to pay sticker, or even instate which still isn't worth it, ASW won't be as appealing as it should be.rdelaney wrote:Yeah, I do get that. I was pumped for ASW until I realized scholarship money is not imminent. Now I don't know what to think. Considering withdrawing from ASW. Quite perturbed with UF to this point.

Have any of you guys that are still under comparative review noticed that the fees window has changed? I think mine used to be blank, but now it has seat deposit option and an ILSP fee option (both have no balance due as of yet). I still don't have a decision, but do you think that could be indicative of admission?

Re: UF C/O 2017 (2013-2014 APPLICANTS)
Does anyone have any experience so far with negotiating scholarships yet with UF?
I'm a current undergrad there and I got a "pretty decent" offer and have good offers from schools that compete with or are better than UF (FSU, Miami, Emory WUSTL, Bama). I would really like to stay at UF for three more years, but it would have to be a full ride pretty much to get me to do it, way above 75% LSAT, GPA at 25th.

Seat Deposit Paid 0.00 .00
ILSP Fee Paid 0.00 .00
This was my last application and the first to receive a decision. I applied on the 15th and went complete on the 16th decision on the 24th.
I am on vacation so I cant anxiously wait by the mail box.
