Wash U is my top choice. The Dark Kite wrote:Is WASHU anyone's top choice? And if so, can you tell me why? It's early but as of right now, it's one of my top choices along with one other school and I just wanted to get a feel for why other people view it with high regard. That's not to suggest I don't have my own reasons already, obviously I had some to talk about in my PS and interview and obviously I had incentive to apply to begin with. But I just want to see if anyone else can maybe shed light on some aspects of the school I may be overlooking. Thanks!
- I'm local, and Wash U is the be-all-end-all of prestige around here. Both their medical and law programs are top tier. I know lay prestige doesn't matter, but it's always a confidence booster to see someone's jaw drop when I tell them I'm probably going to Wash U Law.
- I don't have to move. Taking into account the low cost of living around here and my ability to keep my same house and commute make Wash U the most economical school for me.
- I would really like to work at a firm that hires mostly Wash U grads. I know for a fact the CSO has strong ties with this firm.
- Tying into the previous points: I want to stay in the St. Louis area after graduation.
- Most importantly: They offered me a full-tuition scholarship.
Also waiting to hear from Notre Dame's scholarship committee. I'm Catholic and I live in the Midwest. I'm pretty sure that failing to send an application to ND results in a revocation of my Catholic-ness or something. Again, I doubt they'll be able to come close to what I would need to abandon my Wash U plans.

I can't see them easing their cap since they would apparently rather take a -3 hit to their median than give out more schollyDolphine wrote: Unless things changed from last year, ND typically has a scholarship cap of $25k a year.

I was admitted the same day, it seems like it has only been the people who were accepted mid to late December that got some form of email for some reasonKanyeShrug wrote:12/6

You are just barely below both c/o of 2016 medians, which hurts. Use lawschoolnumbers.com and mylsn.info to search around.vicpin5190 wrote:Officially checking in at 165/3.68. Any idea what my chances are at both admission and potential scholis?
My semi-educated guess would be WL or WL->admit, at sticker price or minimal scholly.

I also got an email today mentioning the possible scholars in law scholarship. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes don't lose hope vicpin5190, it's totally possible you're an admit this cycle. If you do though, I recommend retaking in Feb or June to negotiate a scholarship. It could make such a huge difference.NoDayButToday wrote:People are getting in with those numbers in this cycle, according to LSN!Fiero85 wrote:You are just barely below both c/o of 2016 medians, which hurts. Thank you! I'm going to start with a silly question. I'm from the South and am rather averse to cold weather. I can tolerate it--I live up north at the moment--but how is the winter weather there? Comparable to like, mid-Atlantic / lower-New England or is it more along the lines of Chicago/Detroit...? I know it's rather Midwest.vicpin5190 wrote:NoDayButToday wrote:It's been a few weeks and I'm still Application Received...but I'm guessing with the holidays the staff's been off and they'll be catching up soon.
I'm getting more and more interested in Wash U. It wasn't on my radar at all until recently, but a friend who went to med school there suggested I apply. I've been researching about the school and St. Louis a lot and it sounds like a really good fit.
Looking forward to following the admissions process with you all and hope to have the chance to meet everyone in person!
I went to undergrad there so I'd be willing to answer any questions you have about the campus/city in general. WUSTL is a pretty awesome place.
Campus looks stunning, by the way!
To the weather question: STL is a meteorologist's dream/nightmare depending on whether they value being right or having interesting weather more. It has pretty crazy variety. Normally I would say we have pretty mild winters (4 or 5 significant snows and average temp around 35 degrees) but supposedly it is going to be "coldest-in-two-decades" cold next week. Single digits or below all around

St. Louis is slightly milder than Chicago but gets pretty cold. We are perhaps even more susceptible to ice because we normally hover around 30/35 degrees. Some random days are 60 even in December though. If you're from the south, and have some exposure to the north, you'll be fine. It's like Chicago but less consistent winter temps and less total snow fall. Some weeks are a Nashville/Memphis warmer vibe. Hard to say besides that!
