If you want to go to the school why not write the essay? It takes about 2 hours tops if you are being slow about it. Especially if your numbers are way higher or lower I think it lets them know you are really interested and not just sending out apps to 30 schools.

^ True. From a look at the top - personal effort seems to be important at Michigan. I mean, with the dean taking time out of what I can imagine is a very hectic schedule to write personal notes to potential applicants, it seems the least one could do is return the favor and write something specific to the school. Just saying...

I submitted on 11/1 and when I got the status checker on 11/12 it already said complete.
