You applied for need based money and got declined? Have you tried calling the financial aid department to ask why you did not receive any need based grants? Maybe it was due to your parents' income. It's so silly that parental income is a requirement.BigJimboOrleans wrote:Honestly I'm really frustrated and kindof scared right now. I have no idea what to do. My income is maybe $10k a year at best, they only offered me $7,500/yr merit, and gave me zero grants even with an EFC of 0 (and the max stafford loan - 20,500). There's no way in heck I can come up with ~$30k a year in private loans. I'm going to attempt to call the FA office tomorrow. Other than that, what am I supposed to do? Any suggestions?

It's definitely not parental income, I'm a 27yr old army vet and my parents are broke anyway. I'm assuming that I did get declined, based on the only thing in my financial aid award letter being the 20,500 stafford loan. They (strategically?) sent the award letter at 4:58pm today, so I have to call them tomorrow. My deposit deadline is less than a week away :/

Unless your credit is absolutely screwed, you are supposed to take out Grad Plus loans for the remainder. I believe the interest on that accumulates as soon as you receive the loan.BigJimboOrleans wrote:It's definitely not parental income, I'm a 27yr old army vet and my parents are broke anyway. You should definitely call the FA office. I had an EFC of 0 and I received the full 16k+ 5k/year for merit aid.
I talked to my assigned FA adviser at the school and apart from the stafford loan, you have to take out the rest through grad plus loans as bankrupt mentioned. She advised to apply for this around June ( though I can't particularly remember why). This grad plus loan will cover the remainder of the cost.

Did the scholarship offer come on the admission letter? The one that had the magnet? Or does it come in an entirely separate packet?

FYI, interest begins accruing immediately for both Grad Plus loans and the (unsubsidized) stafford loans. Subsidized Stafford loans are the ones where interest does not accrue until you've finished school, and those are now only available for undergraduate studies.BankruptMe wrote:Unless your credit is absolutely screwed, you are supposed to take out Grad Plus loans for the remainder. Mine didn't. I received mine via e-mail about a month after being accepted. My financial aid offer followed a few days after.

Same here. I had an EFC above 0 actually and still recieved the full $16k need based + $5k merit. There has to be a mistake BigJimbo, unless you submitted too late and the aid was all given out.amja107 wrote:BigJimboOrleans wrote:It's definitely not parental income, I'm a 27yr old army vet and my parents are broke anyway. Yeah, most of my application ended up being after the need based date due to Feb LSAT. I spoke with them and learned I could appeal though, so I'm in the process of doing so - wish BigJim luck!Wbrem wrote:Same here. In off waitlist as of yesterday. I received an email requesting that I reassure of my level of interest and provide a telephone number. I did so and received a call within 30 minutes with an offer of admission. Just FYI for those of you wondering if they are accessing the waitlist at this time.

I'm on waitlist, so I guess I'll be emailing them soon with an updated volunteer position through work.

Congratulations! I am also on waitlist. Do you mind telling me what your LSAT score and GPA is? Are they considering higher scores applicants now?kristopher33 wrote:In off waitlist as of yesterday. Checking in from the wait list - how many of us do you think there are? How many of you (wait listed) are ready to accept if American offers?

I may be.
I talked with my dad last night. He said its a lot of risk, but he said it is potentially a lot of reward so I should consider it over the small regional that is going to give me $.

Admitted off the waitlist with 12.5k a year on Thursday 4/19. PM for numbers. I was given 24 hrs to decide if I wanted to deposit $900 or not. Looks like I will be headed to American next year.

Congratulations! Did you send you email first before they called you? I am also on wait list. Do they first consider waitlist applicants with higher LSAT/GPA?amw5471 wrote:Admitted off the waitlist with 12.5k a year on Thursday 4/19. PM for numbers. I received an email asking me if I was still interested in the school and to provide a phone number. I was called within 30 minutes of responding. I actually had neglected to send a LOCI before WCL contacted me.Sheryl wrote:Congratulations! Did you send you email first before they called you? I am also on wait list. I have no idea about who they consider off the waitlist first, I'm sorry!

From the looks of it, they are trying to hold medians right now.
So if you got close to a median LSAT, you will probably get the call.
