Re: Hastings 2011-2012 Cycle
The problem w/ LEOP was that there was one lady in charge of the whole program. So who was admitted to the school and who was not, at least as far as LEOP went (which is 20% of the class) was based on the whims of a single person. I see no reason why the same principles behind LEOP couldn't just be incorporated into the general admission system.
As far as the "advantages" go, I have no idea what they entail.

even if it's not 9 months after... isn't that still sort of concerning? =/ less than half the class have jobs at graduation
This is a reality for non T-14 schools. Yes, at Davis too. It's well known that they fudge their #'s. It's not that Hastings employment prospects are exceptionally bad, it's that Hastings is one of the few schools that posts fairly accurate employment at graduation #'s.
W/ that said, you will all have to think hard about applying to law school in the first place. Legal hiring will probably pick up a bit by the time you all will graduate, but a significant number of you will struggle to find employment at graduation. If you decide to go to Hastings, or any other non T14 school that's just the reality you will face. So if you decide to attend just make sure you "keep your eye on the ball" so to speak. Do your work for school and all that, but also make sure you are the first one applying to jobs your 1L summer. And I don't mean that as competition between other Hastings students but other law schools. Use your family connections if you have them. Find mentors and keep them. Etc.
If you guys have any questions just let me know.

+1. I didn't really know the program existed...Pleasye wrote:If you can keep it...non-offensive. I'd like to hear about the advantages that LEOP students are given and why you think it's so unfair.Lasers wrote:just to clarify, LEOP is a great program and i'm all for it. my gripe with it is that once school starts, they go a bit too far in providing certain...advantages. they have altered it slightly from what i have heard this semester, so it's a step in the right direction.
I didn't apply for the program I'm just asking out of curiosity.

what the above poster says is true. hastings is and has been one of the more transparent schools when it comes to their employment stats. and, their nine-month stats are not nearly as bad as their at-graduation ones.Borhas wrote:Hastings 2L here.tropicanax wrote:Blumpbeef wrote:At graduation, not 9 months after.aliceydu wrote:OMG the new law school ranking is out! Oh wow. The Saint Patrick's Day Parade goes right by UC Hastings! I was downtown to watch the parade, so I ended up watching it from the steps of Hastings. I can't wait for next year's parade, when all I'll have to do is go downstairs from the McAllister Tower to watch.

So I haven't gotten any $$ offers yet. I'm right at the median for Hastings... does anyone have any idea how much I might get? Or anything at all?

Possibly a bit late on this question but for some reason I've started worrying about it...
Do we need to fill out the parent information on the FAFSA application? I know Davis doesn't care because of Need-Access, but what about Hastings?
For some reason I can't find any mention of it on the website.

Wasn't sure if I'd get accepted so I added you tooaliceydu wrote:I just added you~ (I think it's you). I'm not 100% sure about attending yet, but since Davis has a group already, Hastings should have one, too.melissaraffalow wrote:I'm creating a facebook group for students who are attending and who will be in the class of 2015. I wish...
This Saturday I have "Baby Boot Camp" for expectant fathers then La Fiesta de las Golondrinas (Swallows Day Festival) in San Juan Capistrano. Annual south Orange County tradition. Then on the 31st is a big family baby shower for my wife...I'm swamped!

Re: Hastings 2011-2012 Cycle
Just found out I was admitted today.
Wish I could make it to their newly admitted students day(s). Wish even more that I could get substantive funding (I don't know if I have).
Tuition is nearly $50K/year for in-state residents. The cost rose $6K over one year, and additional increases are certain. Our state is ostentatiously trying to fix the economy at our expense.
