How many days after receiving the welcome packet did you all receive the scholarship letter?

I was thinking exactly the same thing. It sounds like they're trying to drastically raise their medians in one cycle, but they're gonna get burned if they only admit people capable of getting into T10s.msblaw89 wrote:If they keep doing this UT is going to shoot themselves in the footuncjtd20 wrote:you guys see the 168/3.87 that got flat out rejected on LSN? the fuck!?

Re: Texas 2011-2012 Applicants
Mailed in my app on 11/1 (with a fee waiver request)
-No application received email.
-No status checker.
However, they did send me a snail mail letter on 11/14 granting the fee waiver. The letter said nothing else.
I hate how stranded UT makes me feel. Urg.
Not that it matters if people with a 168/3.89 are being flat out REJECTED!!!

Or maybe there was a good reason - plenty of smart people have stupid criminal convictions, plagiarized essays, etc.msblaw89 wrote:If they keep doing this UT is going to shoot themselves in the footuncjtd20 wrote:you guys see the 168/3.87 that got flat out rejected on LSN? the fuck!?

Are these really that common? I'm not disputing it, just curious.splbagel wrote:Or maybe there was a good reason - plenty of smart people have stupid criminal convictions, plagiarized essays, etc.msblaw89 wrote:If they keep doing this UT is going to shoot themselves in the footuncjtd20 wrote:you guys see the 168/3.87 that got flat out rejected on LSN? the fuck!?

With all of the new software systems and things like Turitin.com that track plagiarism... I think people would have to be really stupid to use someone else's essay... but then again I'm sure some people have done just thissnehpets wrote:Are these really that common? Idk if I believe that all of those people have such extreme negatives (if only a couple, but it appears they went on a rejection spree). Maybe Texas will eventually realize the dangerous strategy they're taking though (only accepting people who can get in much higher ranked schools)

I do know someone with a 167/4.0 who was quickly accepted. Good gpa, but still, not a GREAT candidate for schools that are higher ranked. However, I'm also in TX. I wonder if they're focusing on letting in people with lower stats that are TX residents bc they're the most likely to go there and this allows them to be more selective without losing much.

At the end of the day numbers are just numbers and that's all they tell you. Perhaps this person had negative parts of their application. They did list themselves as non-tradtional. Just speculating and trying to make others feel better.uncjtd20 wrote:you guys see the 168/3.87 that got flat out rejected on LSN? the fuck!?

So just so we can all agree that my 3.44 / 167 white PA resident app was a waste of time / $
lol... Countdown until rejection e-mail

I don't think that the rejections have anything to do with criminal pasts or plagiarism. I think that Lyle Lovett was feeding us a load of BS when he wrote this chorus.

Just a guess, but according to LSN looks like they have an LSAT floor of 169 unless you have a GPA of like 3.9+, but if you have a 170+ you're good. But it's early.snehpets wrote:I do know someone with a 167/4.0 who was quickly accepted. Good gpa, but still, not a GREAT candidate for schools that are higher ranked. However, I'm also in TX. I guess I was thinking that if someone had gotten in trouble as an undergrad for plagiarism or academic dishonesty, this would be a valid reason for a law school to reject an otherwise qualified candidate. I doubt most people are stupid / sleazy enough to try to actually plagiarize a personal statement.snehpets wrote:Are these really that common? i don't buy that for a second. 169 is at their 75th for last cycle, and now it's their floor?iamrobk wrote:Just a guess, but according to LSN looks like they have an LSAT floor of 169 unless you have a GPA of like 3.9+, but if you have a 170+ you're good. I watched a student pay another student to write his PS in a coffee shop near campus while I was studying for a final last year. The girl got paid $300 up front in cash.splbagel wrote:

I mean, as we've been discussing in here, it's going to be their own fault when they end up with a class of 50 people and a matriculation rate of like 5%...uncjtd20 wrote:i don't buy that for a second. 169 is at their 75th for last cycle, and now it's their floor?iamrobk wrote:Just a guess, but according to LSN looks like they have an LSAT floor of 169 unless you have a GPA of like 3.9+, but if you have a 170+ you're good. So... the credited strategy should be to try and get waitlisted then?iamrobk wrote:I mean, as we've been discussing in here, it's going to be their own fault when they end up with a class of 50 people and a matriculation rate of like 5%...uncjtd20 wrote:i don't buy that for a second. 169 is at their 75th for last cycle, and now it's their floor?iamrobk wrote:Just a guess, but according to LSN looks like they have an LSAT floor of 169 unless you have a GPA of like 3.9+, but if you have a 170+ you're good. I think the credited strategy would be to try to actually get in. Barring that, yes, a waitlist would be plan B.horrorbusiness wrote:

LOL. Yeah of course. But I said that as someone below their magical new "LSAT floor" of 169.stillwater wrote:I think the credited strategy would be to try to actually get in. Barring that, yes, a waitlist would be plan B.horrorbusiness wrote:

I have no criminal record and never have been arrested, also I have never cheated in college. I applied the first day the app was available and was flat out rejected I think Texas is just really careful with OOS applicants this year. I don't think that they will increase their numbers during this cycle.

UT should at least WL those who are at last year's median IMO
