I haven't gotten any specific information for it either. All I know is that it is at 5 and at one of the Dean's homes I believe. Will you be attending both?Capitol A wrote:Does anyone have details on next week's ASD? I know the itenerary for Friday is on Blackboard, but I cant find details for Thursday. Maybe they haven't sent that out yet, but i just want to make sure I didn't accidently delete it, or have the email go into my spam or something.
Thanks.

ASU gave me money for only the first year. Why would they do that? Are they expecting me to get residency after the first year?

According to the ASU website they frontload the scholly because your first year is the time that you are least likely to be able to generate income.Aldenita wrote:ASU gave me money for only the first year. Why would they do that? Are they expecting me to get residency after the first year?
Other possible explanations have been explored pretty extensively ITT. The one that I think is most feasible is that a big number grabs your attention better. For example, I'm getting $20k for 1L, $15k for 2L and 0 for 3L. This way the offer includes a big number, $20k, psychologically more appealing that if it said $12k/year.

Received my acceptance package in the mail this afternoon, four days after acceptance email. Scholarship was a notch below what I was looking for so will negotiate tomorrow. UA offered me 2x the money.

I was told Dean Soto will call me either Monday or Tuesday late afternoon to discuss further. Will post results when I find out.Aldenita wrote:What did they tell you? My first seat deposit at UMN is this Friday... I would much rather have ASU. I wish it wasn't taking so long.

I think they sent mine by carrier pigeon and it died somewhere in the desert... my admit/reject letter blowing through the hot and dry air like a tumbleweed...gaud wrote:samaside wrote:Anyone whose still waiting to hear back want to start making wagers on when they'll actually contact us?

This is the same response I got (several weeks ago), only I met with Dean Soto in person. The 2 things I will tell you from my experience...1: she wants to meet with you because she is disinclined to grant your request for increased scholarship. instead she will discuss with you the value of your current offer, and work to help you see that ASU is the best fit for you. 2:If you do write a negotiation letter/email, be VERY careful about how you word/approach your request. They are quickly turned off by "School X offered me this much. If ASU can match that I will attend." The purpose of both of the above (and part of the reason they are so slow with decisions) is that they want to form an incoming class out of people who really want to be at ASU for the programs and opportunities.cjw2222 wrote:I was told Dean Soto will call me either Monday or Tuesday late afternoon to discuss further. Honestly, I did not get my scholarship increased, but after touring the school and meeting with Dean Soto and talking to a bunch of current and former students I am totally convinced that ASU is the right fit for me. They have a lot of great programs and the new Dean of the Law School is aggressively pursuing the ongoing improvement of the school and their reputation (I know this is a source of debate, but I have yet to see convincing evidence to the contrary), and the rankings jump from last year has held steady to prove it's not a fluke.

That's good to know. I'm glad I didn't try to leverage other offers from other schools. I did tell them ASU rocks and they're my first choice for law school. I was hoping to get whatever money is left over from people who decline their scholarships and go else where. I am excited to be Tempe bound, though!

Re: Arizona State 2011
I had a very similar experience to yours, just via the telephone, not in person. I too was unable to negotiate a higher offer, but after the long phone call with Dean Soto, I turned in my seat deposit this week. If you decide ASU is your choice, we will be future classmates!Capitol A wrote:This is the same response I got (several weeks ago), only I met with Dean Soto in person. I just called ASU and the lady I spoke with said that almost all of the decisions will be out by next Friday, April 15th, with a few possibly trickling in a few days after that. Fingers crossed!
