Getting in requires 3-4 years of work in college to get a degree and a decent GPA, then hours studying for an incredibly challenging standardized test.

Getting 100K in federal loans takes about five minutes of filling out a form.

How much do you pay to go to this school?

I guess you haven't realized this yet but going to law school requires taking out loans and paying them back over a number of years. Even if you take a full ride at a T4, you're going to have cost of living expenses and will have to take out loans. If you're not comfortable having that much debt from Illinois then you can either 1. Not go to law school at all or 2. Take a full ride at a place like John Marshall and be working at Burger King in three years with ONLY $60,000 worth of debt.

I think you're all on the same page. The guy who said that it's easier to take out 100k in loans than it is to get into a school is right -- actually acquiring the loans is very simple. He wasn't saying that it's really easy to pay off that money.

Yep, it's 4G... And I went complete mid-November, got accepted in the last batch on 12/17

I just registered for the Feb. 25th open house! Anyone else planning on attending it? I'm debating between flying or roadtripping from TX.

I wish! I'm planning to go to the event they host in Houston. I visited in November and can't afford to make the trip up again.

I'll be at the Houston event as well, so we will probably meet each other. How was your visit in November? I'm assuming you are from TX, so if you are, then how does IL compare to TX? I've never been to the midwest and I'm apprehensive about moving from TX again (I did grad school in Boston and although I loved the city and weather, I really missed the friendliness of Texans). Are you planning on coming back to TX after law school or do you want to stay in the midwest?

Probably so. I heard that very few people attend the events that aren't hosted on campus. I grew up in Houston and went to undergrad in Austin. If you think Texans are friendly, you're going to love the Midwest. People seemed genuinely nice and very friendly. This really surprised me in Chicago, actually, because I was expecting it to be a lot like New York City. (Not that people in NY aren't nice--I love NY--it's just feels more fast-paced and every man for himself there). My visit to campus was fantastic. I completely fell in love with the school. Dean Pless and the students were great. Champaign had a sort of small-town feel. Most people make eye contact in passing and smile, etc.

I'll probably end up back in TX eventually since my family is here, but I’d love to stay in the Midwest for a while. I really fell in love with Chicago, and I’m excited to live somewhere other than TX. How about you? Plans to come back to Texas?

I'm glad to hear that the midwest has similar qualities as Texas. Yeah, I want to work in Texas (preferably Dallas, I grew up in San Antonio though), so I'm torn between UIUC and SMU which are my top two choices after UT (which is very very very unlikely). I'm just worried about UIUC's placement in TX, which they seem to do well in Houston, but I don't like Houston very much, unfortunately. I'm really excited for my visit to IL in February and for the Houston reception, so hopefully a lot of my concerns are addressed then.



I wish my mail was here so I could check for my USB drive. Have y'all checked out what's on them? I think there are supposed to be videos and stuff; I'm really excited to check it out.
