I am from Southern California, but spent a while living in a small city in South Dakota after college. The mall consisted of a JCPenny, Payless, and 4 tiny stores I'd never heard of before. You adapt. Everyone else is in the same position as you, so it not too bad.

There are actually two shopping malls in the Iowaq City area. The smaller one, Sycamore Mall hosts a large movie theater (12 screens, I think) as well as a number of chain restaurants and small retailers. The other, Coral Ridge Mall, is in Coralville. Coralville is right next to Iowa City (the transition from one to the other is seamless). It sports a number of large national retailers such as Dillards, Old Navy, The Gap, and so on. Its not the best shopping scene in the whole world, but you can get what you need. On the whole, Iowa City is more sophisticated than one would expect from a small city in Iowa.

I have heard nothing yet. I think the preliminary waitlist is really just a normal waitlist. They seemed to suggest this to me when I talked to them.

I spoke with Collins Boyd on the phone on Friday of last week. He told me that he expected to have most of those decisions made by March 15, but the person who answered the phone suggested that many such decisions would be made "in the next couple of weeks." I am hoping to hear soon, but without a scholarship, I'm not sure Iowa rises to the top my my list. I suspect moving from waitlist to scholarship isn't really likely.

There is a mall. It is in Coralville. Coralville is 5 minutes from the UofI hospital just off of US-6 in the northern part of ICity.

At the mall there is, Sears, JC Penney, Dillard's, Younkers, Scheels, Target, and Bestbuy, Banana Republic, A&F, Aerie, CJ Banks, CHicos, Hot Topic, Wet Seal, Journeys, Gap, etc.

Mmmmm I LOVE Whitey's Ice Cream. One of my favorite things about eastern Iowa!

Most graduates leave Iowa, but Iowa is still probably the most popular market. Chicago and Minneapolis are most likely next.

Yes it does. Say 40% stay in Iowa but 20% work in Finland, 20% work in Atlantis, and 20% work in Alaska. 60% of graduates left, but Iowa is still twice as popular as Finland, Atlantis, or Alaska.

TLS Response: A three page comparison of the hiring potential of firms in Alaska vs. Finland complete with links to the NALP and ABA websites with the relevant salery information, projected growth, etc. These posts would be intercepted with consistent demands for the poster to back up their claim that 20% of graduates actually practice in Atlantis, followed by speculation on their class rank and law review position.

BTW...all the action on this forum makes me think Iowa has made a decision about me. Which it hasn't.

Like others have said, it makes sense. Looking at 2008 data, around 34% stay in Iowa, and then the next highest region is "East North Central" at 22% which includes IL, IN, MI, OH, and WI (mostly probably IL). I suspect that 34% number is a bit higher now, but probably still under 50%.
