Just wanted to drop a quick note to everyone...

I'm an '02 IU-B law alum and I'm happy to answer any questions or just chat generally about the school.

I absolutely loved my time at IUB, and to the poster who said that places like Iowa City are better...unless you have lived there, you just have no idea. I went to Michigan for undergrad and will always bleed Maize and Blue, but I loved living in Bloomington quite a bit more than AA (which typically gets high rankings for cool places to live for college).

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure I couldn't get into IU today with the improved credentials of the students

For those that want to know my career trajectory,
-spent a few years in Chicago practicing corporate law at one of the "Big 3" chicago firms
-spent 4 years on the East Coast specializing in emerging growth and venture capital corporate work for an mega firm
-started my own business consulting company for start up internet companies about 2 years ago. Now I make as much as I did as an 8th year associate working about 20 hours a week and 1/10th the stress. I'm currently looking to expand into other business ventures.

They are changing things up this cycle.
Splitters with something like a 167 3.0 weren't considered this valuable for the last cycle.
Now, apparently, that is a near-full-ride value.
Their strategy last year gave them full-ride students in the 164+ 3.8+ range with the end result being that they were unable to raise the median LSAT.
This time they are going more aggressively after raising the median LSAT (by conceding the GPA issue with some people and giving money to high LSAT low GPA splitters).

Incidentally, during my time at IU from 99-02, splitters with a high LSAT and crappy GPA disproportionately outperformed others in the class by quite a bit (I was one of them). Many of us partied like a rock star in undergrad and basically bombed (at the beginning at least). That is, a high LSAT combined with either a recent high GPA trend or other evidence of increased maturity (e.g., military), had a high correlation. 3 of the top 4 people in my class had a cumulative undergraduate GPA in the 2.9 to 3.1 range.

Your life sounds startlingly similar to mine, except 7 years prior.

When I got my acceptance, I believe the letter said more information would come out in Feb. So I'd wait a little bit, and I'm sure you'd have to RSVP when the time comes.

Same here. I mean, I'm not thrilled about moving north, but they changed my whole playing field with that scholarship. Unless I get in to my state school, I'll probably be in Bloomington in August.

Yes! The money is fantastic, and I wouldn't mind being within an hour drive of both my parents and hs best friend. Of course, I'd be over 3 hours from my husband... but that's the only downside, really.

I think I'll probably attend. I honestly prefer the suburbs of the midwest to large cities and the idea of graduating with no debt is ideal. The only drawback is that my boyfriend is on the West Coast and I have to somehow find a job there after graduation, but really, the UC schools and their budget cuts are not worth 50,000/yr to me. :/

I'm a nontrad, 31 years old, 8 years out of UG. 3.56/171 (non-URM) and I got the same $40K/yr that so many people in the first batch got.

Yeah, to get big $$, you're gonna' have to get your LSAT up.

Well, at what schools are job prospects in Chicago great right now? Don't underplay how much having the ability to hold out for your ideal job will aid you. If you're talking a 120k difference, that's like 2 years of income. Unless you get into Chicago, Northwestern or have a full ride at Illinois, you're not really going to have a better shot at Chicago than a full ride at Indiana, and I'd argue Indiana is less fatally reliant on one market.

167, 2.5 Non-traditional

The GPA is a little misleading. My first go round as an undergrad was a disaster. I took 4 years off and since coming back my GPA is 3.6. Not sure how that played into it...
