CONGRATS! Doin big things, man.
... unless you can re-negotiate with UChicago (my host from UChicago did it when he got into HLS off the waitlist and got a free ride from Chicago), I'd go with HLS. If you want, PM me and I can give you his contacts.
And given how badly the Blackhawks torched my Sharks, Chicago may be a trendy pick.

did anyone else get a JR 1 today? I'm totally thrown for a loop. I thought my decision was made for me. This complicates things far, far too greatly. I thought that Harvard was over-enrolled...

Unless she makes the brilliant choice to keep the full scholarship to UVA.

Ha, clearly this perturbs some of us more than others. Easy now, Shelley.
That said, a full ride to UVA really is something to consider over HLS, though it's certainly not an easy decision either way. People have turned down Harvard for less.*
*It may be telling of my own thoughts on the subject that I initially wrote "given up" instead of "turned down"

I just like to encourage people to consider their legitimate, well-deserved and worthwhile non-Harvard options.

Who didn't get a JR1 today?
Picturing my application being used to wipe up spills and crumbs on his desk.
Do they really need as many people as they have on the WL? I have a feeling he could just be merciful and axe about half the people and still have a solid group to choose from as needed until September.

Me.
And no, they probably need less than half of us, but we'll still be stuck in purgatory until August. They don't care about our peace of mind or happiness.

I mean, I understand they really only "need" the number of people they accept from the WL, but obviously more people than that are needed to remain on the WL to ensure that you will at least have that subset available. Just guessing they have a lot more people than really is necessary in that large bucket.
I wish schools employed some kind of binding decision deal late in the game to prevent admits from jumping ship to go elsewhere due to riding out a WL. Not a forced one, but something where there's a benefit to the student for agreeing to WD from all other waitlists - like $ off tuition, a better housing lottery place, or some other glittery prize.

This is definitely true, but I still can't fathom why they waitlist people who they wouldn't take even if it meant having an empty spot in their class (for example, me) instead of just rejecting such people.

Has he been blogging or tweeting at all? Or just absolute zero transparency?

I wouldn't say zero transparency as much as they aren't sure what they are going to do yet. He can't give any kind of numbers if he doesn't know them. This new round of JR1s shows we are all still in the running. They usually don't do a mass rejection until late July. Then we'll all get it over the course of two days. Hopefully a few of us will get in before then.
This week has been all high gpa people though. I believe at least.

I got a JR1 on the 10th of May and still haven't heard back. I saw a couple of examples of similar situations on LSN last year so I stopped freaking out a little bit. However, I'm seeing that a lot of people are getting JR1s and JR2s in the same phone calls so the freaking out continues. This anxiety is killing me.....
