Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
I don't think anybody here is complaining because they feel entitled to statut checks, reasonable response time, etc. I think the real issue is that EVERY OTHER SCHOOL has been able to provide these things in a timely fashion. It is a major turnoff to applicants that need to make decisions. ASU is shooting itself in the foot if it can't get its admissions act together.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
I wish that were true. I really do. Unfortunately, a quick look at many of the threads in this subforum reveal that many other schools are just as bad as ASU in informing their students. Applicants from Harvard, Columbia, NYU and waiting anxiously for word..hell, even many T2s can be thrown into this.sundevil77 wrote:I don't think anybody here is complaining because they feel entitled to statut checks, reasonable response time, etc. I think the real issue is that EVERY OTHER SCHOOL has been able to provide these things in a timely fashion. I understand its a major turnoff, but remember, most of the students going to ASU next year are already accepted. Why does ASU care if they turnoff a bunch of people they are probably going to WL or reject? And it's not like they are doing this on purpose. The admissions staff isn't just sitting at the desk with a screen full of apps and laughing maniacally. They are working hard trying to determine acceptances for their last few spots, assuming they have any.
I'm not trying to be a downer, I promise, but sometimes the amount of blinders people have on here is disappointing. Covering your ears and shouting "na na na na na" doesn't make reality go away.

Yes, we are all smart people here. Which is why we should all be able to tell the difference between harmless discussion forum venting and storming the ASU admission office with pitchforks.skamike wrote:I don't understand why people are getting upset because they haven't been given an answer from ASU yet. ASU admissions are smart too. They have the majority of their class filled by deadline day. If you haven't heard from them, then it should be plain what the situation is. You aren't entitled to continuous status checks. You pay your money for the chance to apply. You are not in until you are accepted. What happens in between is irrelevant.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
The other issue with ASU which is that (at least according to those who post on these boards), they hadn't sent ANY acceptances , except EA (which they started reviewing in January - even though the deadline for EA was Nov. 1 - according to my "application complete " email), until a few weeks ago. So this is a slightly different situation to be in than that of others who have yet to be accepted into schools that have been sending out acceptances since December.
I think it is fair to expect a school to give you a response within the commonly accepted application timeline, which is that decisions must be made by mid-April. If they are not planning on doing so, they should warn you before you drop money on them. Not everyone has a spare $50 hanging around.
Also, I would like to say that of course I am bitter and am taking this personally. I would never have paid the money if I thought I wasn't going to have a shot, but, my numbers were pretty average for them (LSAT - 75%, GPA - 25%), so it has to be personal! Grrr....

Ummm...I don't think most students have already been accepted. At least there are still a significant amount of people left to accept. The graph on LSN shows a whole range of people that are likely to be accepted or waitlisted, but are nevertheless still without a decision. And yeah, maybe they don't care about people they are going to WL or reject, but surely they will lose a couple of qualified people that could've helped their medians. For a school on the rise, I would think they'd want to get as many of those people as possible. There have already been a couple of people in this thread that decided to go elsewhere because of a lack of a decision.skamike wrote:I understand its a major turnoff, but remember, most of the students going to ASU next year are already accepted. Still heard nothing yet. Just got into UNM last week, and waitlisted at UNLV today. I got waitlisted at Arizona a few weeks ago, I don't see why ASU can't respond in a timely fashion on par with the other state school.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
To add to the information confusion: I just got off the phone with ASU Admissions asking if I was one of the lucky few who had a decision reached now that the 15th has come and gone...
No decision. "BUT!!!!"...she said...
"We expect to have the decision made by next week."
So some people have heard in the next few weeks...
Some have heard next month....
I heard by next week...
I can over-analyze this (which, of course I am), and take it as a bad sign that seats are filling up and they see now that there's no way that I have a shot or...
Seats are filling up...and I'm pretty close to getting in which they'll know next week...
*sigh* In short: I know nothing and learned nothing. Carry on.

I was thinking that maybe they were scrambling to raise money at a law school bake sale so that they can throw more scholarship cash at me in the acceptance letter.AngelAuthor wrote:To add to the information confusion: I just got off the phone with ASU Admissions asking if I was one of the lucky few who had a decision reached now that the 15th has come and gone...

But then I read the enlightening comments a few posts back that basically let me know that I am living in fantasy land. Apparently, they just think that I suck.

No one said anything about ignorant idiots. Look, I know this is a stressful time for a lot of people, and if you want to rant and rave about things, go ahead, but you can't deny that if you haven't heard anything from ASU yet, the likelihood of acceptance is dwindling.sundevil77 wrote: Of course you're not trying to be a downer...you're trying to be a douche. They have admissions staff working all year. To say that the majority of people haven't been accepted is misguided. Of course they have. What school would wait 6 months before starting to fill their class?
But back to the original point of my posts. There is no need to legitimately upset at ASU for lack of communication. They don't owe you continual updates, and they don't risk pissing off a large contingent of their future students because they already have the majority of their class.
Anyways, I understand this is a thread for hope, optimism, and waiting. But don't forget reality. It's easy to get too wrapped up in all this.

The "next week" that you heard today makes me feel better than the "in May" that someone posted here a couple days ago.

Due Date for EA: Nov. 1skamike wrote: What school would wait 6 months before starting to fill their class?
Email confirmation of completed app dated 1/27 states: "Review of applications for Regular Admission will not begin until the Admissions Committee completes its review of all Early Admissions applications in late January." So...they waited 3 months to even begin looking at EA, but of course everyone here is an idiot for thinking they might still be reviewing applications...6 weeks after their deadline...
Whatever, dude. If your defense mechanism (because as I recall, you're not in yet either) is belittling the optimistic and/or disappointed, then by all means, carry on.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
Actually, ASU did wait about 4 months into the admissions process before starting to fill their class because they didn't use rolling admissions.skamike wrote:No one said anything about ignorant idiots. Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
A house divided... I think we can find common ground here. In fact, I think we're on common ground. We all think the admissions process is painful at times and the waiting sucks. We all think life would've been a lot better if ASU could've stuck to the dates they'd given over the past six months. We all think this would've made the deposit decisions elsewhere (if, in fact presented with this problem) much easier and saved us hundreds of dollars. We all wish (if we're not in yet) that we were already admitted. We all think it sucks to be in a position where you gave money to be evaluated and you were not evaluated in the time frame you were told. So, what are our differences...?
Some of us are understandably and justifiably irritated at the predicament we find ourselves in with hundreds of dollars on the line, and we'd like to vent and discuss with others in the same situation. The other side, who if I understand correctly agree with the paragraph above, have taken a self-righteous attitude and claim it's not acceptable to express our frustrations as they seek to destroy the sense of community that we find in TLS (in other words, trolls). Am I gonna continue to whine, and bitch, and complain because I'm frustrated with the process and the gamble I'm having to take? You better damn well believe it. Because I can. In technical terms, suck it.

AND... While the likelihood of our acceptances this late in the game are certainly reduced, you can't possibly equate no response with a waitlist or a rejection. It's a troll premise. Play nice or go back to Canada.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
Hi all:
The estimate is to have all acceptances out in the next 2 weeks; they will be in batches. I know the waiting is awful. I really do think ASU is going as fast as they can. Like I said, they used to wait until the end of May (which I don't support, but they really do seem to be trying). I also think part of the problem is that ASU does a holistic review of all applications, and it takes them forever. I heard from ASU early last year (I applied EA) but had a school that I applied to in September and didn't get an acceptance until May (I didn't hear a peep from them beforehand). Hang in there.....soon this whole process will be a distant memory, and you will focused on getting ready for 1L (wherever you decide is the best fit).

The last batch that I saw was an April 6th batch (there is a binder of accepted students that we call). It sounded like they were trying to get a batch out today and another next week. Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
I do have a good friend who was deferred a couple of years, and she heard in May (she has done really well at the school). There have been a good amount of acceptances in the binder, but I don't think they are done. When I was there this week, the office was an organized chaos; the admissions staff is going as quickly as possible but there are tons of phone calls and emails (including many people preparing for the 2010-2011 cycle....it never ends).Usernamepassword wrote:"The next 2 weeks, in batches" seems to be the common phrase since January 31st when we we're all deferred....we'll see how that actually pans out. For people with looming deposit dates, will the schools let you postpone the deposit a bit (I know ASU tries to accommodate people)?
