Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
i researched this a bit and it seems that 30% of HLS matriculating class is coming off WL may not be very accurate. I had used 30% figure based on a post in the past applicant thread. A more accurate analysis shows that 20% of the matriculating class (120 students out of 562 in HLS) are coming admitted based off WL.Kinch08 wrote:The other day I saw a thread which claimed that between 20 and 25% of the people who were waitlisted in the C/0 2019 eventually made it in off of the waitlist. If 30% of the class was made up of waitlisted students like Appind says, that would mean that 800-1000 applicants were waitlisted. I can't find that thread now, although I've looked for it a little bit; does anyone who knows what I'm talking about want to link us so we can clear this up?hellohalo wrote:So many?! Is 30% normal to all law schools? Curious.appind wrote:
These are all reconcilable statements. Around 30% of the class gets in from WL. So around 200 js2 will be from WL.
That means they do around 1000 JS1s.
Looking at data from class of 2018 thread, 750 JS1 were handed out by this time 2 years ago. Combined with 20 slots from last week, we have had 770 JS1s.
So my projection is that there are 230 JS1s still pending.
RE people who want us to stop talking about angels and pinheads: Your dastardly efforts to prevent us from reaching the sacred 180 before the fast-approaching deadline will not succeed.
Also WL size is expected to be ~600.
i'll post more detailed estimates shortly with relevant sources.

Everybody stop posting!
Unless you got a JS2, then post.
We only have 13 spots left before we enter the darkest timeline. Gotta keep the cushion alive.
Plz guys I want this JS2 my numbers aren't so good that I can afford to leave it to chance

Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
there appears to be a need to revise the estimates that i posted before in light of new information.
JS1/JS2s so far
WL data:
Estimates:
Projections:
this means around 285 JS2s and 302 JS1s have to come in March (assuming everyone is going to be either WL, JS1, JS2 or ding by the end of March).
- 562 seats
- 900 offers
- 1200 JS1s total
- chances of getting off the waitlist 23.7% (http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 5#p7508095)
- acceptances from WL: 15.6% (http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=225363)
- Net yield on offers: 62%
JS1/JS2s so far
- 475 JS2 given
- 770 JS1 given
WL data:
- Yield for WL->accept: ~85%. => 119 matriculants off WL. => 21% of the matric class is off WL
- Total acceptances from WL: 900* 15.6% = 140
- % of those in WL who are complete->WL (no JS1): 62% (http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 5#p8489793)
- % of those in WL who are JS1->WL: 38%
- Chances of JS1 in compl->WL group: 35%
- Chances of JS2 for compl->WL group: 19%
- Chances of JS2 for JS1->WL group: 26%
Estimates:
- size of WL:140*100/23.7 = 590
- complete->WL= 590* 62%= 366
- JS1->WL = 224
- Total JS1s from WL: 35% * 366 = 128
Projections:
- # of total JS2s before WL is announced: 900-140 = 760
# of total JS1s before WL is announced: 1200-128 = 1072
# of JS2 remaining before WL: 900-140-475 = 285
# of JS1s remaining before WL: 1072-770 = 302
this means around 285 JS2s and 302 JS1s have to come in March (assuming everyone is going to be either WL, JS1, JS2 or ding by the end of March).
