Yes, there definitely are, but they're pricey. I don't have a definite # since most people I know are in studios, but a studio in close walking distance (about 3-5 minutes) runs a~$1200. Finding one won't be an issue, though.
Do you live in the area? Do you have feedback for people moving to Chicago for the first time.
It's a pretty touristy area for those that aren't from Chicago.
I live very close in one of the common buildings. I was moving sight unseen from rural Texas and its my first time in a big city, so it was a great decision and worth the money for me. It relieved a lot of 1L stress to be able to get hOme and back in 10 minutes if I forgot something or roll out of bed for class, and I got to explore the city at my own rather timid pace. Now that I know and love Chicago, I'll be moving to a neighborhood with more character and cheaper rent. It really depends on personal circumstances, I think, and what wirks for you. Streeterville is really not bad, but it is a little dull. I found that the CTA pass NU gives us made it easy to go to other neighborhoods, but you have to make an effort to get out.
eta: excuse my grammar and spelling, on my phone at the airport.
I'm flying in for ASW a day early so I can look at housing options in the area. I'm thinking of looking in Streeterville for a studio walking distance from NU. Are there any buildings besides the one on the NU website that you would recommend checking out or staying away from?
P.S. did not mean to imply that NU would be full of youth sucking old crones! Sorry if I offended!

Has anyone heard whether there will be money left over for scholarships for people coming off the hold list? Based on the NU 2015 applicants thread it seems that last year there wasn't. I would willingly withdraw if it were revealed that this would be the case this year (hey there Johann

), thereby allowing NU to protect its yields. Assuming I would have been admitted of course.

What do all of these scholarship notices mean for those who are still waiting for admission decisions?

@ferris- don't worry, just joking
I'm not sure what buildings NU mentioned, but in Streeterville I'd loo at McClurg, onterie, Seneca, and the various buildings near the Hancock (I don't know the names offhand).

10 Ontario is a pretty cool building. River North wouldn't be the worst walk/bus ride but may be a little more expensive.

The google streetview of the area around the law school shows the sky cloudless, and everyone in shorts and a tee-shirt. Do you think the Cook County government or the law school itself bribes Google?
But seriously, I'm terrified of the cold.

C'mon. This is Chicago. Google probably had to bribe cook county just to take the photos.

Summers are pretty sunny but can start pouring rain in a matter of 10 minutes. The weather is crazy but NU Law is right next to a beach so it's legit.

I did some looking online and I doubt you'll find anything in the 3 figures near the school. From what I'd seen, being within walking distance, studios were close to 2000. maybe there's cheaper stuff I couldn't find, but it's so slose to downtown, I wouldn't be surprised if that's standard. I'm just going to be looking for something near a L station for a good commute and hopefully some ppl to share an apartment with. I have some friends there who I'm gonna meet up wit hwhile I'm visiting to try to get some more advice about housing from.

It takes the edge off. Congrats on the award! I was certainly afraid for everyone that they were done last night.
Has johann updated? Are they winding down?

Awesome man, for sure better than nothing. And negotiations underway i presume? At the dinner where I met Johann some alumni was talking scholly with him on behalf of his daughter, and Johann emphasized, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, NEGOTIATE.
aiaea wrote:Big Dog wrote:Nice of them to offer, and certainly better than nothing, but no way I could attend NU this way. Sad, because I really liked their joint JD/LLM program.. Oh well
I thought that you will be in NYC next year (with the SO), anyway?
He also got into NU so it was really among our top choices, especially since it would mean we'd get to be classmates (which would've been awesome since we met in college). He only got 30K too, so it looks like NU is off the table for sure.
Same to you and your bf, NEGOTIATE.

30K - still very nice given my not-so-stellar numbers, but NW (and living in Chicago) is just too expensive....
Does NW match scholarship from T14-20 schools? NW is my top choice (my SO will begin PhD in Chicago this fall), but I am afraid if turning down T14-20 schools with $$$ (and lower COL, although my SO will help me a bit with COL if I decide to attend NW) is a financial disaster.

Really? I wasn't able to find anyhting in that range. Are they decent? Are there any Multi-bedroom apartments nearby? If I could find a 3/3 to split that would be really close, is a studio is 1200 I imagine a 3/3 should be under 1000/room.

Ya I definitely will. 30k is definitely nice and I appreciate it, but its not enough to say my cycle is over by any stretch, so I'll be trying to get that offer that lets me withdraw everywhere else. Grats to everyone looks like as soon as feral gets his award we officially left no man behind!

3/3 would be $5,000 easy. NU Law is downtown and places that size don't exist in the area.
ETA: check out padmapper that I referenced above.

Can't speak to multi-room apts, but my studio is really nice and is 1250. It's a good idea to call the buildings directly.

Not according to
domu. Studios are a much more efficient use of a high-rise than three-bedrooms.

For reference, the 2/2 I lived in was $2600. Others 2/2s in my building go for up to $3500
