Email was at 4:46 chicago time today. Didn't post for so long because I'm an RA and we had to close the halls, so I just ran up and down them in excitement.

In all seriousness, I am thrilled. NU is my first choice and my lsat was not the greatest...

officially freaking out about no email today

It doesn't have one. You get a discount at a local gym that makes it ~$200 a year.

How is the gym? Is it one that I can do some real lifting at (i.e. has squat racks and dumbbells up to 100 or 120 lbs, you know, legit free weight stuff), or am I gonna have to find another one?

Well, I'm not there quite yet. I can only do 4-5 reps with 90lb dumbbells for db bench right now. Mostly working out with 85s currently. but i wanna have that room for improvement. I think if I keep at it I should be benching the 100s by end of summer. DBs are harder than barbell, but if u think about it, for benchpress, 200 isn't really that high.

Haha, I will most likely be attending NU in the fall. Literally just got back from the gym where I did DB bench with 100s 3x12 (elbow problems so I can't lift heavy right now). Good to see there are some more bros headed to NU. I'm sure we'll find somewhere to lift!

Hell yeah it should. Hey, we could even all live together and split bulk protein powder. truenutrition has whey for $6/lb if u buy over 15lbs. (remember the good ol days when $5/lb was standard?)

If you guys are worried about finding a gym where you can lift and are considering living in Streeterville, I have friends who are really big into bodybuilding/lifting and they do just fine at River East (about 3-4 blocks from school, and a 2 minute walk from Onterie/420 E Ohio/The Streeter/McClurg/etc). River East is the gym that offers a deal for NU students, and I think it's owned by LA Fitness? So membership covers any LA Fitness in the nation. IIRC it's about $180 for a year.

I heard there's a really great old-school lifting gym up in Lincoln Park or something, but I don't know the name. You should ask Boo for info on that one.

This is a misconception about NU. I'm among the oldest of my friends in my mid/late 20s. There are certainly older people, but you wont be at all out of place at 22-23. You really don't need to worry about all the old crones at NU trying to suck your youth away

Yes, there definitely are, but they're pricey. I don't have a definite # since most people I know are in studios, but a studio in close walking distance (about 3-5 minutes) runs a~$1200. Finding one won't be an issue, though.

It's a pretty touristy area for those that aren't from Chicago.

I live very close in one of the common buildings. I was moving sight unseen from rural Texas and its my first time in a big city, so it was a great decision and worth the money for me. It relieved a lot of 1L stress to be able to get hOme and back in 10 minutes if I forgot something or roll out of bed for class, and I got to explore the city at my own rather timid pace. Now that I know and love Chicago, I'll be moving to a neighborhood with more character and cheaper rent. It really depends on personal circumstances, I think, and what wirks for you. Streeterville is really not bad, but it is a little dull. I found that the CTA pass NU gives us made it easy to go to other neighborhoods, but you have to make an effort to get out.

Guess my theory about decreasing scholly amounts was true. Just got my letter-- 30K. Nice of them to offer, and certainly better than nothing, but no way I could attend NU this way. Sad, because I really liked their joint JD/LLM program.. Oh well

He also got into NU so it was really among our top choices, especially since it would mean we'd get to be classmates (which would've been awesome since we met in college). He only got 30K too, so it looks like NU is off the table for sure.
