It's not only possible, it's common--at least for holds. Most of the holds so far have gone to applicants who have not had a JR1. I don't know about the waitlist, though. There haven't been any waitlists yet.blueballa wrote:Hey folks, I'm sure this has probably been addressed hundreds of times, but I've got a quick question: is it possible to get waitlisted/held at HLS without a JR1?

Re: Harvard 2010!
Had my JR1 this morning. I was expecting a longer conversation, but after looking through the forums, it seems like my ~10 minutes was on the longer end.
He started off with, "So now you're finishing up TFA, that's really cool."
He was one of the best, most reassuring phone interviewers I've ever had, but I still felt my voice shaking for the first two minutes.
I asked about not graduating with my cohort because I hope to add an MBA if I get a JR2. He said there were 28 joint JD/MBA people now, and that they'd have the same advisor, etc. I hope I get to be the 29th, cause it sounds wonderful to have such a small group within the larger class.
I wait.

Congrats Johnny, the fact that you're one of the few applicants who broke through Harvard's wall of silence right now is a really good sign, almost everyone who's gotten a JR1 email since the last week of January has gotten a JR2 since then.
Good luck... maybe he'll get around to some more JR1 emails tomorrow /wishfulthinking

You know they send out most of their JR1 emails on Wednesday anyway...Sogui wrote:Congrats Johnny, the fact that you're one of the few applicants who broke through Harvard's wall of silence right now is a really good sign, almost everyone who's gotten a JR1 email since the last week of January has gotten a JR2 since then.

28 from the current HLS/HBS community, right? From the people I talked to, there are about 5-10 people in each class that are doing it.JohnnyTrojan08 wrote:Had my JR1 this morning. makes sense, as the total number of graduates is still under 400 i believe. 28 per year would come out too high. The Human Fund wrote:

He told me my file would go under faculty review, and I haven't heard back since. That was about a month ago. I'm not sure if he says that to everyone or not, though.dream wrote:Congrats Johnny for a good jr1.

I don't understand what you mean--what did he ask you that you were surprised by/unrelated to the standard questions?dream wrote:By any chanc did anyone els have a very short JR1? mine was two minutes and I was extremely nervous bc I prepped for the three main questions and did not expect he two questions I got. Anybody who feels doubtful about a long under review period, just remember that a 3.77/179 has been under review for about forty days and hasn't heard anything. Blegh.bloodonthetracks wrote:what does it mean to be UR for 3 weeks and counting?

I would have suggested we make a "chain of confidence" for people who at least are owed a JR1 and haven't gotten one yet to boost the morale of everyone else waiting... but I remember how that turned out for the Columbia waiters.CoaltoNewCastle wrote:Anybody who feels doubtful about a long under review period, just remember that a 3.77/179 has been under review for about forty days and hasn't heard anything. I'm still waiting on something from them too. I have the feeling I'm going to be writing what I hope will be four very compelling LOCI's this cycle.Sogui wrote:I would have suggested we make a "chain of confidence" for people who at least are owed a JR1 and haven't gotten one yet to boost the morale of everyone else waiting... but I remember how that turned out for the Columbia waiters.CoaltoNewCastle wrote:Anybody who feels doubtful about a long under review period, just remember that a 3.77/179 has been under review for about forty days and hasn't heard anything. lol the columbia chain was a disaster, i wonder when the influx of jr1s are going to come out, maybe harvard decided to halve its class size this year and already gave away most of its spots

Wasn't the entire Columbia chain held or something?

Not sure where this is going, not implying myself, though I'd love one.DoubleChecks wrote:oh snapzportena wrote:And who exactly might that be?Sogui wrote: I would have suggested we make a "chain of confidence" for people who at least are owed a JR1 and haven't gotten one yet to boost the morale of everyone else waiting... but I remember how that turned out for the Columbia waiters.
The peeps like BenJ, CoaltoNewCastle, and countless other profiles I've scanned with great numbers that would at least warrant a JR1 unless their apps were abysmal.
I also know a Hamilton recipient who is still waiting for his JR1. I don't know if there's enough to call it a chain, but there are definitely some great candidates out there who it would be INSANE for them not to even hear from JR before being waitlisted/held/rejected.
