Re: Berkeley 2010
I'm in with the folks that have heard nothing. Hoping for the best, love Berkeley and wish everyone else luck.
Just as a distraction, how many times have all of you looked at the 'no vistor' comments of LSN and felt the urge to whip out a red pen and correct it? Almost as bad as the e-mail I sent to Berkeley today with an application update and I wrote the wrong form of a verb. haha.
Let's not take ourselves too seriously folks. If Berkeley means that much to your future, well, maybe you're not who they are looking for, as it is no panacea for our career.
To our future, with or without Berkeley.

Dinged yesterday. Somewhat surprised. I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but the rejection email has some bizarre diction.
Stats at LSN under same name.

It tried really hard to be nice. I think it was a little too nice. "It's not you, it's me."theadw wrote:Dinged yesterday. Somewhat surprised. I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but the rejection email has some bizarre diction.
Except I know it was totally me

Dinged (158/4.0, 2 MAs). 1-2 at UC law schools (5-2-5 overall) and I have the esteemed privilege of being in the exclusive 0-2 club for Berkeley post-grad programs (rejected for PhD program in '07)

All the FR decisions come out on the same date. Sort the Berkeley decisions by date and you get a group of mixed decisions in mid-March (FR2, 3/19-20), preceded by universal rejections all the way back to a group of mixed decisions in mid-February (FR1 2/19).queenofhearts wrote:BenJ wrote:Meh. sooo FR is a good thing?
how do you know which were FR and which weren't from LSN last year?

Stiiiillll 10/19. BUT, I just bought Cardinals @ Cubs tickets for the weekend after Chicago starts classes, so I guess that's pretty much decided.

On last year's LSN 43 people reported back on March 19-20, 13 in and 30 wl/out.BenJ wrote:Meh. Everyone not FR at this point is probably rejected. Dont know why I didn't think to look at LSN for March 19/20. Those aren't horrible chances - I'll take em.exdubliner wrote: On last year's LSN 43 people reported back on March 19-20, 13 in and 30 wl/out.

This year might be a good year for the waitlist, you never know. I know they rank it (and that doesn't change after they set the waitlist) but I don't know when/how they do that. Maybe after the 2nd FR?granville90 wrote:Um... WL anybody? I'm kinda surprised I didn't get dinged, but is that basically a polite "don't bother"?
But, with all the Dings out there, congrats on the waitlist!!!

Re: Berkeley 2010
When under FR, do most people not hear back until around the date stated in the email or do individuals hear at staggered dates throughout the period until that date? Thanks for any help, I just want to know whether I should stress now or relax until around the date in the email.

Re: Berkeley 2010
Should all be on the same day, on or about the date given. That was the experience for the 1st FR group. We were told Feb. 19, and we heard on Feb. 18 via email for the most part.

If you look at the numbers from the TLS Berkeley Profile. The acceptance rate for faculty review is only 13%. Administrative review is 11%, so your chances aren't radically changed either way. At least that's how I'm trying to think about it.

Is it the consensus here that if an applicant hasn't heard about going into FR at this point, then said applicant should assume a rejection is imminent? Applied 1/26 and UR since 2/3.

Re: Berkeley 2010
It depends on your numbers. If you're above both 75ths your chances were probably a lot better than 11% in AR.foxyeconomist wrote:If you look at the numbers from the TLS Berkeley Profile. What I'm trying to say is... There are unqualified applicants and auto-dings in AR. Theoretically, there's no such thing in FR.

Re: Berkeley 2010
I went UR 2/3 and was selected for FR (via email) on 2/18, but my status checker still says UR 2/3.
However, "Faculty Committee Email" is listed under Mailings. Check your status checker to see if it's there; maybe it just got caught in your spam filter.
