But is that earliest for everyone? Or just earliest for this week's JS1s? Maybe because they don't want them to freak out when the massive JS2 wave comes this week? Right? Riiiight? Riiiiiiiiight?

Not necessarily -- katthegreat was told they would hear back as early as next week; that's probably allowing some time for faculty review of their application. Doesn't necessarily mean no one will hear back before next week. All hope is not lost!

My logic wasn't that kat hearing back by next week at the earliest meant none of us could hear back earlier, it was a little more convoluted than that.

If there are five waves this year like there were last year (kind of) we have one more before the final one, and if it's going to occur next week (which it must, if kat could possibly hear back in a positive way next week) it won't occur this week.

Of course, all of my assumptions so far have been wrong, and there's no reason whatsoever why there couldn't be six waves. I'm just speculating.

The more realistic hope is that you'll get in off the waitlist; the best estimates we have say that about 1 in 4 people do. Those aren't bad odds, and even if they aren't great odds they're better than the odds of a JS1 next week or later.

Has anybody been keeping track of JS1 waves this year? IDK how many there've been. Sure seems like less. But then, there's no guarantee that the number of waves says as much as we would like it to about the number of JS1's that've been sent out.

If I had my JS1 in late January and havent heard back yet, do we think it is likely that I will be WL/rejected or there is still hope for a JS2? Feeling nervous that I wasnt in the 2/22 JS2 wave. Sorta lost hope after that.

No reason whatsoever to lose hope. Plenty of people from very early in the cycle get admitted in very late waves, so people from quite late in the cycle definitely aren't guaranteed a sub-thirty-day turnaround--in fact, it would be somewhat unusual. You were more likely to be in a later wave than in the 2/22 one from the start. Everything's going fine for you, there's nothing to do but wait.
